Mobile tech looked at it today. He said the kids were reviewed and between the engineers and it looks like the scheduled preconditioning was not allowing the car to sleep or at least it was coming on daily. There may be an issue with the gps based preconditioning where when using shipping mode you must turn off scheduled preconditioning so it’s a bit of a bug. It’s annoying we even need tomorrow about this stuff. I knew I should’ve just left the car and parked as I always do without trying to get fancy and use shipping mode. Anyhow, if you’re gonna use it, be sure to turn off scheduled preconditioning!

Run a test at home overnight to see if you get the same drain. It could be an anomaly but I'd open a service ticket regardless.

This info came from a service ticket. The mobile tech came today.

Crazy thought...

My Volvo similarly brick once at the airport after a long trip. My solution was to install a battery saver device that disconnects the 12v battery when voltage reaches a certain level. Remote button that I have routed to the outside in a hidden location allows you to turn it back on with enough reserve to start the car. Same switch allows you to manually disconnect the 12v, such that one cannot start the car even with the remote.

I have been thinking of installing a similar device on my R1T to prevent it from vampire draining when I'm away for long periods. 2 concerns are: making the hardware match with the smaller 12v battery in the Rivian, and dealing with potential complaints by the Rivian when the 12v is disconnected.

Just a crazy thought.

This is a great PSA - thank you. Fortunately I've never used preconditioning, and this is another reason for me to avoid "automation".

Good thing your trip wasn't two days longer. I was away for 23 days last month, with GG on (parked on a street with lots of people walking by and triggering GG), lost 1.7% per day.

Others have disconnected the 12 volt battery, once reconnected the vehicle boots up without issue other then losing seat memory presets. It's kind of like when they disconnected HAL in 2001 then they turned him back on in 2010. He wasn't aware of what happened during the period he was off, your Rivian will react the same way ;)
