Another Sirius XM post but maybe a solution

I am in a rural area where cell phone signal is weak or non existent so casting Sirius from my cellphone is a poor option.

I contacted Vaistech who develops Sirius XM (SXM) solutions for vehicles that did not originally come with SXM. Their solutions are much more elegant than strapping a receiver onto the speaker or just connecting by Bluetooth. They intergrade the system into existing infotainment systems as if it were an oem system.

The response I received was that they did not currently have a solution because there has not been much interest in a SXM solution for Rivian but if there was interest they would work on it.

So here is you chance to let Vaistech know that you want SXM in your Rivian. All you need to do is follow my link below to their site, open their chat box and ask if they have a SXM solution for Rivian.

If Rivian doesn't provide aux input support (both hardware and software) or USB media support, it's going to be a pretty big challenge to integrate an aftermarket solution. I can't speak to whether there is an aux input (I'm doubtful this exists) but we do know there is no native software support for controlling any kind of aux audio device. And maybe USB media support will come in the future but, as of today, that is still not an option (USB integration appears to be what Vaistech supports).

SiriusXM has a method of direct connecting through the FM antenna. It uses a switch to cut off the FM on broadcast directly to the infotainment system. While not ideal it works well without the static of other FM channels.
RIVIAN has been reluctant to tell users where the FM antenna comes in but a few have had professional installers hack it out.
I am hoping for a bit more of an elegant solution that may be the average DIY user could do like the ones supported in the company listed above.

If you wanted to go the FM adapter route, you don't need VAIS, those products already exist. But an FM adapter would only address sound output, it would do nothing to allow control of a SXM receiver through the Rivian touch screen which is what you are asking VAIS to deliver - and which is something they won't be able to do until Rivian supports USB media.

Yes, even Sirius sells the FM adapter that connects to their Roady BT radio. You then switch to the Roady BT and use that to tune channels. Not great but you get satellite radio.

The problem is identifying the FM antenna coming into the infotainment system. Rivian has been recluctant to explain where that is. If you have a schematic or picture that would help.

Yes, the weird thing is, the Sirius XM radios use Bluetooth to connect to radios or use an FM station to connect.
The Rivian radio's Bluetooth system does not allow Sirius XM to connect to it but you can use Bluetooth to connect to the camp radio. But using the camp radio when you have a full car stereo system seems a little ridiculous.
Using the FM connection doesn't work well because there is a lot of static inference from other stations.
But the FM interface sold by Sirius XM connects directly to the FM antenna input and stops the radio from receiving any other signals than what it receives from the Sirius XM unit. That would be an acceptable work around for me but it has been very difficult to find that FM antenna lead in the Rivian.

The Rivian radio's Bluetooth system does not allow Sirius XM to connect to it but you can use Bluetooth to connect to the camp radio. But using the camp radio when you have a full car stereo system seems a little ridiculous.

This is odd. I just purchased a RoadyBT unit today expecting to connect it to my Rivian via BT to listen to SXM. Why won't it connect? My current setup is listening to SXM via the mobile app and then listening via BT, which works flawlessly.

I really don't know enough about it but there are different functions (codecs) Bluetooth can be setup to do. Currently, the Rivian doesn't seem to recognize its' format.

I wish our vehicles came with SXM. I just use my phone to listen via Bluetooth. Thankfully I’m always in an area where signal is not an issue.

Rivians do not have AUX in, the USB-c connectors do not presently act as inputs, the BT is greatly restricted and will not recognize nor pair with SXM BT devices and lastly there is not a satellite antenna. Rivian will not disclose where the FM antenna cable can be found nor where it attaches to the infotainment unit. I have seen postings where some individuals have had professional installations and were able to find the FM cable and install a disconnect to eliminate static. It would be helpful if this information were shared. FM static is really a function of where you use the FM SXM and how crowded the frequency is. It took some time (and patience) but I was able to find a relatively clear frequency.
