I hope Rivian can be transparent with the investigation/root cause and preventative measures to prevent recurrence (IR/CAPA). This would provide some confidence to those of us waiting for our deliveries that we are not purchasing something like the Chevy bolt.

Either way, it seems Friday was a day of fires at EV plants:

if you’re lucky, the fire dept will put out a press release with the cause

They’re always small fires, so we got that going for us, which is nice.

"Another"? Has there been one in the past at the Normal factory?

Okay, even if you are a hardcore Rivian fan, this is not good.

I don't recall Tesla's Freemont factory having vehicles catch on fire going down the assembly line when the were scrambling to ramp up Model 3 production.

Are the robots spot welding the headliner by mistake? I sure as heck hope it is not the batteries.

Once inside, firefighters located a Rivian vehicle on fire on a vehicle lift.

Great. And that was your build.....

I'm not in manufacturing, but I would assume that all welding would need to be done prior to anti-corrosion treatment, primer, and paint -- which means no interior would be installed yet.

I doubt there would be this large of an issue if some fabric just caught on fire. But Rivian certainly won't be forthcoming so we won't know for certain.

But, battery fires are a known issue and a single battery fire would demand the type of response we see here so it does tend to add up. Just speculation but there are only so many things to catch on fire during manufacturing of an EV.

Everyone should have a smoke detector in their garage. Anything can catch fire and it would take awhile to be noticed. I have a detector as well as a device that links to my home automation system that would alert me to the presence of smoke.
Actually might be better to put a heat detector. Less chance of false alarms.
This was actually a suggestion from a home insurance inspector. He said these were a good choice for kitchens as well.
