does it make sense to pay $4 monthly for the EA membership to save 11 cents per kWh. In my Mach e, I primarily used EA when I couldn’t charge at work or at home.

someone who is better at math could probably tell me how many charges it would take to begin saving….

4/0.11 = ~36. Being the Rivian has a 125kWh usable battery it easily pays to pay $4 a month if you use EA.

Depends on your location, but for Texas charging at 350KW speeds it's about 50KW for charging to make up for the $4 membership fee, which gets you less than a 50% charge. So if you're going to use it more than once a month charging more than 50% battery charge it's worth it (In Texas)

While I'm excited for the RAN to be built out for adventure travel, previously unattainable for most EV's, I will most likely have my R1S for a year or two before the RAN is built out to any noticeable degree.

I have experience with long distance travel with Tesla, but not EA's network. When I use a better route planner, and estimate several trips in the R1S, it looks as though we can pretty much go anywhere without issue. From Los Angeles, to Mammoth, Tahoe, Zion, Bend, Denver, even as far as Manhattan etc...

Over the past few months, I've read, watched and heard various issues with people using EA with their Mustang, Taycan, and i-Pace. Chargers not working, being slow, disconnecting etc...

So, I wanted to reach out to you forum members to get some real-world perspective from those that have used the EA network for long distance travel.

Does it work and perform well? Any issues, any praises? Any comparison to the Tesla network experience, and charge speeds?

It's what I use now if I can't get to the RAN, had no issues whatsoever for 2 months now except for a very few occasions where a charging station is offline/not available. I used to use Evgo exclusively on the first month of ownership but their chargers timeout after an hour even if you haven't reach your set charging limit. They are also expensive compared to EA.
Get the app first, register and once you're ready to use, plug it in and use the app to start charging.

Planning a trip from San Jose to Los Angeles in R1T. Any recommendations in EA charger locations to use or other charger options. Thinking of taking I5.Thanks

Should only take one (full) charge at EA in Kettleman City to get you there. But it's a longer slow charge once over 70%, so you can also hit two EA stations on the way for shorter hits/ that's what the in car nav will likely suggest.

2nd on Kettleman. Used it a couple days after Christmas. All 10 were working and in use. Only had to wait a couple of minutes. think I pulled close to 200. Harris ranch is about 20-30 miles north too but less units. Check plugshare
