Anyone regret not getting underbody shield

We are locked in for a shop R1S with everything we were looking for EXCEPT the underbody shield - Limestone, OC, 20. Waffling a little bit on the decision - we live in the northeast so corrosion is always a thing - the most offroad we do thus far is campgrounds and some service trails, but having trouble shaking the idea of not getting it when there's no way to add later. So the question is for those who did NOT get the RUS, has anyone actually regretted not getting it, or is it something you completely forget about once you've picked up the car.

I haven't heard of anyone damaging the battery pack yet. Maybe those people are out there but are too embarrassed to post about it.

To make yourself feel better about the lack of under-body shield, remember that it eats into your cargo/towing capacity. Depending on how you plan to use your vehicle, no shield can actually be an upgrade. No shield increases your weight limit by 10%.

I am way more likely to bump against the weight limit than I am to drive over a boulder larger than 15".

I didn’t get it even though my original preorder was configured with it. The shop vehicle I found didn’t have it. I traded the RUS on my AP RIS for a LE R1S, no regrets. Plus I don’t mind the slight weight savings. You’ll forget about it once you’ve picked up the vehicle.

That's the other thing I'm considering. I picked up an AP which means it didn't include the wheel upgrades, and hearing people recently getting LEs from the shop, wondering if I pulled the trigger too quickly

I wanted it, but didn’t get it with my shop pick. I’ve been off-roading on fire roads several times in about has tough of a terrain I’m comfortable with (which is not very) and I’ve not needed it. If I ever want to do more difficult terrain in the future, I plan to buy rock sliders. I may be wrong but I feel like rock sliders offer more protection than the under body shield.

No regrets, but also no real intent to go off-roading.

Yes, I loved the fact that I saved on the 22” bright sport wheels and this one had the factory installed PPF.

I was able to secure my first LE R1S in mid May and there was a pretty good amount of them coming through the shop. I ended up rejecting that one and was put back in the shop early June. During my second go around, I noticed fewer and fewer LE’s popping up in the shop. I can only imagine them being even more scarce now.

Haven't gone off roading yet but don't regret it at all. I feel like the armor that's standard should be plenty for the majority of situations. I think sliders are more important than the RUS.

IMHO, the RUS is just a low cost way for Rivian to boost its average selling price (a strategy I support as a shareholder!). I was so close to adding it to my R1S, even though I will never go rock crawling.

Don't have it, no regrets. But then, I also don't go rock crawling so I'd love to hear from the folks that actually do that kind of thing and how they fared without the RUS.

I never planned on going offroading, so I didn't bother. Plus I think at the time I got my truck, they were running low on underbody shields, and ended up going with people without it. Likely why I got my truck a bit faster.

No regrets. My days of running over IEDs are (hopefully) behind me.

My store-picked R1S has RUS because I (or the next owner) might just need it someday. For the same reason it will be rock crawlers and not the lighter (and less expensive) running boards.

Sort of like having some extra insurance given the price of repairing a damaged R1T or R1S.
