The problem isn't the few quality issues, the problem is Rivian knowingly bringing these to delivery centers and delivery people allowing these to be delivered to customers.

I’m pretty lenient on the gaps, but I’d be upset with ones that are literally protruding like that. Hopefully they’re already adjusted by delivery.

After two SC visits to address my poorly aligned gear tunnel doors as well as other issues they are sending a mobile tech to address the doors. The drivers side is only accessible if I open the rear door to be able to open the gear tunnel door. Last visit the front fascia popped out of its clips and I couldn’t pop back in. SC fixed it and misaligned my charger door in the process. #fun

I wouldn’t accept them. I hope you get a satisfactory resolution. So frustrating after a long wait.

My vin is 35xx. I don’t don’t know the build date, but my 8 steps opened on 1/18 and the vehicle shipped from the factory a day or two later.

Is it possible you looked over your vehicle in the lot BEFORE it went through PDI?

My R1T had some misaligned panels on the drivers side that were adjusted by the SC. Put in a ticket.

I question what the "QC inspection" covers before delivery. All of my misaligned panels should have been taken care of before delivery.

Yes, I absolutely did. Hopefully these gaps have been taken care of and won't be there at Saturday's delivery. I just want to be prepared in case they are still there.

I am hoping Rivian will nip these issues at the bud. If it continues down this path (poor QC), it's going to be "within spec" in no time!

Hi, I took delivery of my R1S on 01/21/2023 and I had very similar panel gaps and misalignment issues like yours, especially the rear liftgate. I am not sure if the service center will adjust the rear liftgate before delivery (my guess is not) since they are overwhelmed with many appointments stretching all the way to June in some locations. The delivery guy was very nice and honest with me that these are kinda common issues among all R1S deliveries. He helped me taking pictures and sent out service request on the delivery date and told me they will take care of these issues. One day later I got a call from Rivian service center to confirm my requests and reserved an appointment for me at Chicago service center 15 days later, which was the earliest appointment open among all. After I sent my R1S to the Chicago service center, the service center technician went over all my 7 requests and told me they will try their best to accommodate all the issues, but they probably won't touch my rear liftgate because they are told by engineering department NOT to touch the rear liftgate as long as it opens and closes properly since it already went through high pressure waterproof test at the factory. Adjusting the rear liftgate will potentially cause more issues like waterleaking. He said they had worked on a R1S liftgate adjusted for 3 days but was leaking water by the time they were about to give it back and washed the car. I wasn't happy at the time and I sent my guide, Bryce an email complaining, and he said he requested extra care for my case. Just last weekend, I got my R1S back after 12 days and they did try their best to adjust my rear liftgate to be flush with the quarter fender and aligned the taillights pretty well. He told me the top rear liftgate of these early built R1S (mine is 8XX, built in 09/22) are slightly smaller than the ideal size, but Rivian made the change maybe after VIN# 1500~2000 (2022). So my rear liftgate ended up being slightly lower on the top roof area maybe 0.3 inch, like two small black shark tails, but it looks much better than before around the taillight area. They adjusted my charging port cover perfectly and the silver trim both side on the top. The black plastic trims under the doors still have some gaps, but I can live with that. Now I just found out that my steering wheel is slight tilted to the left by 2 degree and the plastic case holding the air compressor popped out maybe during the rear liftgate repair process. Anyway, you have 7 days to return it. If you can not tolerate some small gaps and misalignments, then you probably need to seriously consider this option. For me, I really love how R1S looks and the interior is perfect for me. Good luck and hopefully it will be perfect on your delivery date.

Thanks, I was hoping maybe you had a much lower VIN. I've got a VIN around 39xx and hoping for delivery in the next week or 2 (vehicle was still in transit to Dallas last week). Hopefully these panel alignment issues don't persist.

I doubt it. If they keep delivering these cosmetic issues, the line to the SC will get longer and longer. Now the customer has to decide if they want to wait 45 days to have issues fixed or live with it and many will live with it. This "within spec" is wack

But if competition ramps up with traditional manufacturers, that will force QC to increase

My last service appointment fixed the front panel that came unclipped. It seems like they realigned my charge door because it’s visibly different than what it was based on the gap at the quarter panel and is now rubbing and causing paint removal on that recently fixed front panel. Between that and my *third* appointment to fix my gear tunnel doors I’m def mildly annoyed! Why is it so hard?
