My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
With the new Autonomy+ package coming in Feb, what becomes of current capabilities on mapped roads (base driver+ features - auto steer and cruise)? Are we losing these and need to subscribe?

Since you can't subscribe to Autonomy+, I think we'll be fine...

Not following you - thought this (Autonomy+) was going to be available on all Gen 2 ...

Gen1 continues as is - it’s always been vanilla mobileye and will continue to be that.

For gen2 here’s the best source atm: https://rivian.com/support/article/what-is-the-rivian-autonomy-platform

In summary - come April 2026 unless you subscribe or purchase Autonomy+ you will loose the lane change on command feature we all have today. The next release will add UHF and a few other things that will be gatekeeped from that date above.

I assumed you were Gen 1 since you referenced Driver+ which Gen 2 doesn't have.

I think UHF should be available on highway roads for free. If Rivian wants to charge for that feature on local roads, that’s fine.

I think what you described is ‘Highway assist’ which will remain free. I suppose another way of putting it is that without an autonomy+ subscription - expect the gen1 feature set (Via Rivian’s stack rather than mobileye)

If the highway isn’t mapped, then basic autonomy will fail right? This is why I think UHF should be free on highways everywhere

oh I get you now - yeah that would be nice. As it stands UHF seems like a gimmick off highways - though obviously need to try it 1st - by ignoring stop signs etc - I’m not sure where I’d be comfortable using it other than highways (mapped or not).

Kinda seems like we are being asked to pay for what ‘the other company’ provides for free (at least with the current advertised feature set). Along with not transferring seems like Rivian have no problem nickel-and-diming their most loyal customers - which is good strategy, until none are left (see DirectTV et al.).

I think the ignoring stop signs and traffic lights is brilliant.
How many of the lawsuits against Tesla are based on "FSD failed to stop"?
If UHF doesn't ever stop, and the driver is always responsible for that, then there will be no (or at least fewer) lawsuits if something happens. Likewise, this means the driver really does have to be in control and paying attention. No false sense of safety means you're less likely to be doing something stupid behind the wheel.

Don't like subscriptions. One time or bust. I am going back to buying my music too. These streaming services are getting on my nerves.

GM turns off hands free when approaching a stop sign or light, resumes afterward. Hands more control to the driver.

Oh ha - yes, sorry. I can't recall which terminology is used for which generation (having owned gen 1 and gen 2). Thanks!
