Since literally the first time I opened my frunk, I’ve thought it would make sense if the mobile charger could be attached to the underside of the hood, so it would always be accessible, no matter what else I had in there. I’ve yet to see a product that would do that. Has someone made something that I’ve missed?

I might just have to go with a hook and loop strip, if I can get an iron-on one for the charger pouch, or something. Otherwise a molle panel, or even just loops that straps could attach to would work. Has anyone tried removing and reinstalling the plastic part that seals the frunk bin? Could maybe just bolt some simple loops to that.

How would the added weight of the mobile charger affect the performance and life span of the motor that opens the hood?

It's a decent idea for a manually opened hood, I just wouldn't want the added stress on the electric motor.

In addition to the additional weight of the motor to lift, I'd be worried about the vibration on the interior molding...and how it may affect the underside of the hood.

Irrational idea. The hood feels and is visibly flimsy just from hand washing. It has also been observed to ripple/flutter while driving. Mounting charger to hood doesn’t make it any more convenient than just sitting on the floor inside its case.

I tried mounting traction boards to the hood - the hood will not stay open with the additional weight. I settled on a MOLLE panel for zip ties, trash bags and Silky saw (lots of trees up here!)
I'll share pictures in the morning.

So you already got your ass handed to you for the first idea, LOL..... But I don't know if this is stock or not, my used R1T came with a cargo net across the front of the frunk. Pretty useful. Those are cheap and easy to add.

And the hood trim panel has the random plugs to prove it!

Panel pops off with a trim tool but hood won't hold much more than this.

The net is stock, I’ve got one. Just seems like an overhead storage spot would be ideal for something you could theoretically want quick access to unexpectedly, if you run into charging difficulties on the road or something.

Nice! I wonder if we could swap in stronger hydraulic lifts for the hood. I did that on my Cherokee when I added a ladder on the back liftgate; worked like a charm!

The struts are both electric linear actuators, not hydraulic units. Maybe a set of "helper" struts to offset additional weight?

Interesting. The Cherokee has one actuator and one hydraulic cylinder. For a much heavier door (especially once I added the ladder). It auto opens and closes, too. I wonder if they Went with two actuators for reliability, or something; the hood is definitely less stiff than a liftgate, so might be to avoid excessive torsion, or something.

Were you able to mount this to existing hardware under the hood? If so what panel did you use?
