This reminds me of a rental car I got in Europe a while back (a Peugeot I think...) -- you could configure the sound of your blinkers. Got to love whoever came up with those names

I can't stand the blinker noise either so I literally no longer use my blinkers when at stop lights. Not sure what was wrong with the blinker noises we have been using for the last 75 years, but Rivian has to reinvent the wheel wherever and whenever possible.

Just my 2 cents...

Oh and also, if you offer any constructive criticism about Rivian in this forum prepare to get it interpreted as a negative comment and subsequently get roasted by what I call the "brand Myopians". They will tell you how your opinion is wrong, and theirs is the the truth and the way.
I'm indifferent on the blinker sound but can't imagine any blinker sound "forcing" me to not use my blinkers and certainly wouldn't take it as far as OP who tries to assign blame for a near miss accident to the blinker noise.

I like the blinker sound a lot more than traditional blinkers. Here is a video of how they made it

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Their heart was in the right place, but the final effect is lost, IMHO (I still don't have my R1, and ironically I didn't even touch the blinker in the first-mile test drive). Here's how they missed it: 1) The first and foremost metric for sounds is: does it sound good? In this case, I don't hear the wolf really, and the wood sounds way too much like a heart beat: that is a bit unsettling. It is single tone, with little motion. 2) Is it unique? I suppose, but: if you really want unique, listen to ANY sound in commercial transportation in Japan: it's fun, it's musical, and it is *never* unsettling. 3) is it informative? Do any car manufacturers have a different sound for left and right turn signals, exactly like modern watch navigation for L and R turns?

You just have bad memories from that time on the Nostromo when the Xenomorph kept showing up on your motion tracker.

The tok is too damn loud
The navigation is the industry worst
The heated steering is weak
The horn is weak
The body panels are weak
Driver+ is laughable
The FM radio reception isn't that good

But, the blinker? The blinker sounds just fine to me. Maybe something is screwy with your vehicle or maybe that particular sounds irritates some part of your brain.

Is it just me but I think the blinker noise is annoying like Chinese water torture and to loud? I rarely use my blinkers now and almost hit a car in my blind spot because I am so used to not using the blinker. They should turn down the volume of the blinker.
Please use your blinker…Jeeezus. ?

The blinker sound could be my wife nagging me about something…I prefer it to the gear lash of my early VIN ?

Wow. Just use the blinker. It’s a safety issue. If it’s that terrible then a Rivian might not be for you and that’s ok.

If Rivian would have just called their first EV's I-R1 by Apple.... would everyone just suck it up and accept it? Apple would never change a product midstream to appease customer dislikes. Introducing a stand out product as complicated as a ground up EV is pretty complicated and pleasing everyone is even harder. Besides Tesla with its frequent updates and now Rivian, every other manufacture hardly ever updates a vehicle or fixes perceived dislikes. You just get what you get and maybe they fix it in the next model year or maybe they don't.

I guess I'm indifferent to the sound of the Rivian blinker, because I hardly ever drive in complete silence. Either way, I give them an A for thinking out of the box and actually justifying why they did something.

Everyone that says it's just you is wrong: I posted a similar thread a few months ago. The blinker noise is objectively terrible!
sorry, but nothing objective about that. just your opinion.

You must have hearing like a barn owl.

My old ears barely hear the blinker noise but what little of it I do hear I have no issue with.

I don’t mind the sound but I think it could be better. It sounds too monotone to me and for the first time in decades I discovered that I still had my signal on after making a lane change. I think that was a combination of the monotone sound being covered by music, the turn signal stalk which returns to the center, and the on-dash arrows which are just outlines (not filled) and not super high contrast against the white background in bright daylight. It only happened the one time, but I use and cancel my turn signals every time I change lanes or make a turn.

I think it would be good if the turn signal sound increased with speed to compensate for background noise or if the vehicle would start dinging at you if the signal is on for more than a 1/2 mile or something. The first new car I bought, a 1991 Dodge Daytona, did this. I thought it was a great idea and I never saw another vehicle which did it.
Edit:typo
