The photo is from the Rivian web site and the color is California Dune, which has been discussed lately. I am disappointed by the inaccurate representation of the Rivian colors in general on their web site. The actual photos I've seen have been of what can best described as a very light yellow. Are California dunes really that color? When I bought my truck it was described as Limestone. I didn't expect it to be blue. I've okay with it now. Why doesn't Rivian show photos of the actual color?

If you are seeing very light yellow, you need to calibrate your monitor and/or change your color profile for the monitor.

I have seen it in person and it is very beige. There is not a hint of yellow.

Wow - looking at your profile pic, I have never seen such a blue tinted "limestone" before. My buddy has a limestone truck, and his doesn't look blue at all. It's almost entirely gray with the tiniest hint of green if anything. But barely detectable. But if your profile pic is an accurate representation, I'd call that closer to baby blue. Very interesting variation there

To be fair, colors will look different in sunlight than indoors, lighter colors will look lighter and darker ones will look darker in direct sunlight. Agreed some of their color names don't really match the color. I see the dune color more like light tan or light beige than yellow so it could just be your monitor color profile.

I don't want to get in an argument at all with this reply, but I will offer that I have heard many Rivian owners and employees (both in person and online) comment that part of the "magic" of some of the Rivian paint colors is that they are dynamic and appear to change color or hue in different lighting and under different conditions. That seems most true with Limestone and now California Dune. My El Cap seems to be pretty consistently dark gray, but I have seen some Limestone Rivians that I did not like at all (almost periwinkle/light blue in certain light) to those Limestones that I loved (more base gray), all based on lighting.

My guess is that California Dune looks pretty different under different conditions and you just can't trust pictures to capture that given the dynamic environments. I know that the sales people I have talked with at Rivian who have seen the Dune color in person are big fans and they claim it's very beige/light sand in person. I hope to see one this week and I'll report back.

I sort of wish that Rivian would use some accurate color names, like Google did for pixel a few years ago.

Things like:
Barely Beige (California Dune)
Almost Entirely Gray (Limestone)
Pretty darn blue (Rivian Blue)

For reference, these are the google colors I'm referring to:

Yellow? No, it's light sandy colored. It's also a metallic, so how it looks will vary vastly pending lighting and colors present in surroundings. In bright sun and under blue sky it will look slightly warm off-white. In shadow it will look like a medium weight sandy tan. Metallic paints have fine metallic flakes that act like mirrors. This is how metallic paints achieve their dynamic color ranges and contrast between surface changes. Appearance is not a constant. Same exact reason Limestone photographs differently in different environments. Glacier White is the only Rivian color that isn't a metallic.

Rivian purposely CG render their images in neutral lighting and environments to give you a baseline idea of paint colors. The renders are not inaccurate. It's accurate to lighting conditions and environment depicted. Context.

My FG G1 has been trying to look like California Dune lately with VT mud season:

On a more serious note: I suspect California Dune might be a great color to hide salt and mud. The one Limestone R1T in our town looked pretty clean all winter when I drove by it, which is a feat given all the salt used in our area (my truck looked super salty in comparison). We have a couple Silver R1Ts in our business. Those also do well at hiding salt, and pretty good with dry mud too, but I bet California Dune is the best at masking both.

It does have a chameleon-like quality similar to other Rivian colors. Even the two images I took under the same lighting look a little different. Beige, tan, and gray are what I saw. Definitely go check it out in person.

As a proud Dune owner I agree with your characterization beige, tan, with a hint of gray. It is very nice in our opinion. Color matched wheels are the bomb.

here it is feeling pretty beige

I picked up my R1T Dune and felt it was lighter than I expected based on the pictures I had seen leading up to it. And there is a small hint of green in there somewhere. Here’s a picture I took of mine in the sun with a bright white canvas leaning up against the driver window and a deep black frame (for reference).

I think, as mentioned, there is a bit of magic in a few of the colors, namely Limestone (I just received our used R1S and when I sent the photos from the dealer my wife was like, umm, why is it a weird blue color), and yet, it does not look blue at all when it arrived), seems like Dune has a similar quality to it, which is cool!

@onesoil my FG R1T looks the same here in downeast Maine, but it did just rain finally lol, so now it's sort of clean looking.
