I've never taken the speaker out except to "show it off" to people. Something more functional would be nice, here. Some good ideas in this thread. ?
I haven't even remove it out or use it since picked up the car in march. Such a waste of space for me. Glove compartment replacement !!!

I wondered why there are 4 electrical contacts on the speaker. could two be involved in a contact closure indicating the speaker is inserted. More complicated is that it needs a resistance or current draw to trigger detection.
For simple elegance I would just loop the power for the latch mechanism through the speaker.

my built-in speaker charger doesn’t work. I have to take it out and charge it outside the car. Might want to check yours.

is the lock gonna need a physical key? Would be a pain if we need to carry it.
I donno. It's up to TWRAPS. That said, I could easily envision combo lock and not a key-based lock.

Agree that key would be a pain and anything electronic would drive the cost up and have to be installed. Ideally, the locking mechanism is a part of the drawer and attaches to the center console camp speaker opening without any mods.

I don't really need more storage like thus. What I do need is lockable storage, even if the whole thing can be removed. Enclose it, put a lock on it, and a port to do a "tie down" to make sure the whole thing doesn't get stolen. That, I would buy in a heartbeat.

Hands down would buy one of these; my wife's chief complaint about the R1 series is the lack of interior storage compared to our Tundra.

Sometimes at work I would rather just crawl inside a burrito.
Great - now I'm totally craving a burrito AND a Rivian.

Sigh...

I am coming from cars where there was barely storage for a pair of sunglasses. I thought the Rivian had tons of storage already. Never understood why there is a glove compartment though. I think this is a very cool idea as long as I can swap it out easily with the speaker and lock it.

Twraps-you sir, are going to do fantastic! Mark my words. Your products and CX is great. Keep it up mate. Wish you all the best!

Hey guys

Thank you all for the feedback! I've read each end every message (and will continue to do so). Just an update - I will now be working on figuring out a better front, preferably without a separate plate. It's always tricky when you 3D print hollow objects, so I'd need time to make this look and work good. Once I have v1 (a simple version with just inserts and dividers perhaps, without beer coolers, burrito warmers, biometric locks, rocket launchers and the sorts), I will release it and take it from there to make versions for different purposes. I will keep you updated. I hope to have something rather soon, but each test takes some 8 hours so there is only so many I can do per day without taking up resources which we use in production.

Nice! So the common theme is to do the front differently. I will work on that.
To clarify a few things that were mentioned:

1. This is indeed 3D printed, but also the final version will also be 3D printed (with ABS). The reason is that we do all design & manufacturing in-house, we don't outsource. I hope to get an injection molder in the near future but for now I don't have one. I am also getting a vacuum thermoforming machine so that particular product might be viable, will see... but for the next few months this is certainly only being 3D printed.

2. Liners - yes, we currently use leather for our liners and there will be leather liners in this too, I just haven't made these yet but for the final version I will.

3. Locking - I am actually trying to figure this one out. I too would appreciate locking due to lack of secure storage in the RIvian. In the other hand, let's face it - this is plastic. Unless it's metal or similar, any able bodied person can just rip it off regardless of locking. Still locking would be cool and I am trying to figure out how to cheat the Rivian that this is the camp speaker :)

4. Charging - I haven't thought of it, but will look into it. Perhaps something for v2 as this feature will take considerably longer to implement.

5. Front plate - okay, noted! It seems the cut out acrylic for a front plate wasn't the best idea :) I will see what to do about it, will need a few days to experiment. Ultimately it would be best to 3D print it all in 1 pass to reduce labor too. I can likely put the screws on the inside and have the tension inserts into the acrylic, although the area inside would be hard to access to put the screws in, but either way - well noted that the current solution is a no go. I will work on that.

6. Heater/cooler - unfortunately that would be outside of my current capabilities.

7. Dividers - noted. This is also contingent on how I end up doing it, because right now I print it upwards (the locking latch being at the bottom), hence the lack of "top" which when used is the front. With that orientation dividers would be tricky, but I will try other orientations and see what happens.
For me, just "maybe" clean up the front plate a little. But then again, with where it's at, not something you'll ever be able to see.

Adding a liner is a good option so things don't slide around so much, but you already have that covered.

Otherwise, I like what you have. Nice and simple and will serve its purpose.

Wouldn't add cup holders as the Rivian cup holders are immediately above it, so don't see that they'd be necessary. If you tried to put cups in there, they'd be too tall to use the factory cup holders, so you're not gaining any cup holders. I'm good with the factory cup holders as they are.

Would have to measure it, but looks like it could already be big enough to hold a couple of 12oz cans. Add some ice, and you're good to go for a few hours.

Personally, an OPTION for dividers could be nice, but I kind of like having that space for larger items you want to keep out of sight. So, if they are added, hopefully can be easily removed for those that don't want them.

Charging, not sure it's necessary. If you can do it easily, then maybe, but then you have to get power to it, which seems more complicated than it's worth. You already have charging in the console right above it and on the other end of the floor tray. Sounds like a bit of work to try and add it. If there were no other charging options close by, then ok. Otherwise, probably not necessary.

Locking...As you noted, it's just plastic. Could easily be broken. Plus, then you'd have remember to carry a key for it. As long as it clicks into place and stays secure, I'm good without a lock. I wouldn't trust any valuables in there anyway, being that it could be easily broken into. That's where the frunk and gear tunnel come in handy.

That's my two cents. Personally, would keep it simple, keep the cost down and it will be a nice option to add a little more interior storage space for things you don't want out in the open to prying eyes.

Happy to take one as it is, plus the interior liner. As soon as it's ready, let me know and my order will be in.

Thank you.

Great idea, but the panel gaps hurt my eyes. The gaps in the right/left not matching the gap on the top looks bad. Also the corner radius not matching the radius of the opening.

Between those two things it makes it look like a random baskets stuck in there rather than something custom designed for the space.
