What happens with the camp speaker? If you want to charge it you need to remove the drawer. I agree the R1's could use better storage usage, but I would not want to toss out the camp speaker to get it.
You can charge the camp speaker via USBC.

Nice! So the common theme is to do the front differently. I will work on that.
To clarify a few things that were mentioned:

1. This is indeed 3D printed, but also the final version will also be 3D printed (with ABS). The reason is that we do all design & manufacturing in-house, we don't outsource. I hope to get an injection molder in the near future but for now I don't have one. I am also getting a vacuum thermoforming machine so that particular product might be viable, will see... but for the next few months this is certainly only being 3D printed.

2. Liners - yes, we currently use leather for our liners and there will be leather liners in this too, I just haven't made these yet but for the final version I will.

3. Locking - I am actually trying to figure this one out. I too would appreciate locking due to lack of secure storage in the RIvian. In the other hand, let's face it - this is plastic. Unless it's metal or similar, any able bodied person can just rip it off regardless of locking. Still locking would be cool and I am trying to figure out how to cheat the Rivian that this is the camp speaker :)

4. Charging - I haven't thought of it, but will look into it. Perhaps something for v2 as this feature will take considerably longer to implement.

5. Front plate - okay, noted! It seems the cut out acrylic for a front plate wasn't the best idea :) I will see what to do about it, will need a few days to experiment. Ultimately it would be best to 3D print it all in 1 pass to reduce labor too. I can likely put the screws on the inside and have the tension inserts into the acrylic, although the area inside would be hard to access to put the screws in, but either way - well noted that the current solution is a no go. I will work on that.

6. Heater/cooler - unfortunately that would be outside of my current capabilities.

7. Dividers - noted. This is also contingent on how I end up doing it, because right now I print it upwards (the locking latch being at the bottom), hence the lack of "top" which when used is the front. With that orientation dividers would be tricky, but I will try other orientations and see what happens.

I'm sold. Been waiting for something like this since we never use that damn speaker. It is a waste of space for me. This could be glove compartment replacement.

The speaker is cool but for me it is a special outings only item, not a daily use item, where a drawer like this is more functional and would see daily use.
I love the option don't get me wrong, but am I the only one that feels this space only makes sense for things that will be used infrequently?

Otherwise the space in front where it slides in to is going to have to be clear of any clutter which in my R1S is basically impossible.

To me this is why the speaker or storing something that is used infrequently makes sense vs quick access for daily use. ?‍♂

Should be able to lock with the sw update being pushed today. It no longer says lock speaker but instead lock compartment. It was highlighted in another thread.

Love the concept. Unfortunately the view from the front makes it look really unrefined (was going to say "janky", but that's too harsh). Doesn't look like it fits right, and isn't really the shape of the opening, especially with the extra space on the sides.

I think if you could get the faceplate piece to more accurately match up to the opening, it'd be a huge hit.

Probably will be a hit anyways. Who's actually looking at it from the front angle? Probably just me and a few of my other OCD owners.

A weekend with 2 kiddos didn't seem busy enough so I figured I should do a drawer replacement for the camp speaker too :)
This is nearing production readiness. Here are some photos and some remarks.
Also, it latches so there is a nice click to it when you operate it, but Rivian refuses to lock the latch. I will figure that one out for v2.

Any thoughts, ideas etc before I release this?

Since Rivian didn't put a glove box to lock things up inside, it would be great if the drawer you end up designing had a lock to secure the box, when needed.

I don't know if you can put a lock but that would be a great feature, if something simple could be made to work.

Count me in. Can you add heating so I can use it to store my driving burritos?
Next time I see a burrito driving a Rivian I am totally going to think of you @COdogman.

That's the prototype in the photos.

is the lock gonna need a physical key? Would be a pain if we need to carry it.
