Maybe they could add a silent alarm type option. This would allow the vehicle to behave normally for a set distance then start throwing errors on the instrument cluster / reduce performance so the vehicle is effectively playing dead. Once stopped it could flash all lights and honk the (not especially attention-getting on newer builds) horn. You’d be able to get to safety as they drive off and I suspect the thieves would quickly bail. Bonus points if the vehicle can start playing a message, ā€œThis vehicle is stolen.ā€ in multiple languages via the external PWS speakers and the stereo, loudly.

Ultimately, it’s a possession which can be replaced. Unless thereā€˜s another person or a pet strapped in I’d just let them take it and start figuring out what color to get for the next one.
How about an Alexa automation using a duress phrase? "Alexa, give full control to this new driver."

When they touch any controls, Alexa responds ā€œI'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do thatā€ and display this image on the main screen.

LOLOLOLOLOL. That would be awesome. We need more humor and less white shirts and black ties (geek look).

What would be amazing is if they added a "police" function. When the carjacker gets in the car, they take off and you press the "police mode. It locks the doors so they can't get out and it navigates to the nearest police station and then when it arrives it says "I am a carjacker....I am a carjacker".

I agree. The amount or car jackings that Oregon has in a year is probably what SF, Oakland, LA has in a month.

Having the "pew pew" (especially in the Bay Area), most criminals don't expect an owner to be armed since the local government and state government have basically made law-abiding citizens the criminals and the criminals FREE.
Your "Pew Pew" is a bit biased or assuming something without support.

Open gear tunnel with app and slide in before they take off. Wait until they get home or to a safe place. Slip out under the cover of night and burglarize their home and leave with the goods.
Does hiding in the tunnel constitute ā€œConcealed Carry? Haha

Bear spray is not legal to use against humans but pepper spray would be in California. If you can't get away driving then give up the vehicle as long as you won't be kidnapped in the scenario. Not that they will think much about where the key is in the heat of the moment. Under zero circumstances get in a scenario where you or your family will be kidnapped. "Nothing good happens at the second location." as John Corea says. Run from a knife and charge a gun if there is no choice.

I will be a new R1T owner as of T-Day 2023 and have never owned an EV or any vehicle with enhanced anti-theft functions. Bear with me with this perhaps naĆÆve question:

If someone points a gun at me and demands my key card, carabiner, or phone to control the truck how do I block their use? Will giving them the "keys" enable their full access? Is there a password I can implement? Will tracking assist Rivian in finding the stolen truck?
Thanks in advance for your help; I plan to keep bear spray in the door pouch regardless.
Everybody has a plan ā€˜til the gun barrel is in your face.

Having a "pew pew" greatly reduces the chance of a carjacking. A 100% guaranteed chance you won't get carjacked is don't go to areas that have a high risk of that. The slim chance of me getting carjacked will greatly be reduced with a "pew pew"

Not sure it has been mentioned but my tesla Y has an anti theft option I hope Rivian implements soon with an update on my T..... When you get in the car and before it reacts to your D or R input on the stalk, you need to put in a 4 digit code on the center screen to drive the car. Even If you park and open the door, before you can drive again you need to put in the 4 digit code again. It may seem repetitive but I like it more and more each time I drive it because IF I ever get jacked or someone attempts to steal the Y, I can step out and run..... and the jacker is stuck with a car that he/she cannot drive.

1 - Go to the energy button on the center screen
2 - Navigate to the self-destruct mode menu
3 - Tap the 1 minute button. Or 5 minutes if you prefer
4 - Give them the key card
5 - Take out your phone to record the explosion
6 - Post the video here for the rest of us to enjoy
7 - Go the R1 shop and get a new Rivian
8 - Repeat as often as needed

Happy to help!!

This just made me think about getting robbed in general (not the store). I have a few old iPhones, for no apparent reason. Perhaps I should carry an extra one around and hand that to the nice gentleman (robbing me). What say you?

My 68 year old sister in law wanted me to teach her how to "shoot a gun". Her cluelessness to the repercussions of shooting a person shocked me. And frankly, at her age a young person with minimal skills is going to disarm her and potentially use the weapon against her. My advice to her is give them the keys. The vehicle is insured. (even in West Virginia...) The $1,000 USAA deductible won't cover two hours of lawyer fees, and if you shoot someone today you will need a lot more than that to cover your legal expenses. And God forbid the person was unarmed.... If you are feeling brave and actually in your vehicle... That vehicle is your best weapon and your best defense. Get off the X and get out of the kill zone.
