At some point in the recent past after one of the OTA updates, my charge port stopped automatically unlocking after charging. While I do like this, I now need to unlock my car in order to remove my charger. Has anyone else noticed this? Full disclosure: my home charger is a Grizzl-E and not a dedicated Rivian charger.

If this is indeed an update, it would be nice if there was an icon that would allow me to unlock the charger without having to unlock the car.

Thanks

Richard

I’ve never experienced being able to remove the cord without unlocking.

I noticed this today too. I can confirm to everyone saying it’s always been the way the Rivian documentation as of February this year did explicitly say it unlocked upon the charging session completing. And that’s what mine used to do as well. Nice to see it now stays locked

This is a security issue. You don’t want unauthorized people disconnecting your charger.

I charge at home, and have a tesla charger. I'm able to remove it without trouble (i thought locked or not but need to check when I get it back from service, for other issues). What I don't like is having to wake up the vehicle to close the charge port

I charge at work. I would love for someone to be able to unplug when my charging is done. Not sure why this changed.

Locked when charging and unlocked when done is what makes sense to me.

I don’t think there is any one right way to handle this for all people in all situations and the behavior should be user-selectable.

If you’re charging in a public location with your own charger, you don’t want someone to be able to disconnect and walk off with your charger once your charging session is done.

If you’re using a free public charger, you want other people to be able to disconnect the public charger for their own use after your session is done.

I think it would be ideal if this could be stored as one of many user-selectable options matches with a favorite location, assuming Rivian adds a capability for this. Door locking behavior, charger locking behavior, charging amperage, ride height, folding mirrors, cabin pre-conditioning, and other settings can all be location-specific for people.

This made the rounds on reddit recently. Seemed the general consensus was that this could be preferential, and a good candidate for a user-selectable option (unlock charge port on charge completion) toggle.

I've NEVER been able to disconnect the EVSE cable without first unlocking the truck, and I like it like that.

My 2013 Nissan LEAF had a 3-position switch on the dash for controlling how it locked the cable. Apparently, in 2018, this was moved from a physical button to a software setting.

Lock:
Off - could be unplugged at any time
On - could be unplugged when doors were unlocked
Auto - could be unplugged when doors were unlocked or the charging session completed

off/auto were great for using a public charging station
on was great when using your portable EVSE

edit: without it being a configurable option, the cable should be locked to the car when the vehicle is locked. I do not want my portable EVSE to walk off when left unattended.
