Hi all, I got to a Tesla supercharger today with about 20% battery life. I did pre condition the battery for the 45 min prior, it was only 26 degrees outside. Plugged into charger , saw the speed go up quickly to 200+ kWh , then got a Red flashing / beeping error. Said there was a charging error, said to wait 15 seconds to unplug and try a different charger. I tried a different stall, same thing, tried a third stall, same thing. Got the same error after being plugged in for 20-30 seconds..

my theory is the Tesla charger went too high for the batteries ability to charge that fast. Strange though, why didn’t the vehicle just limit the speed? I’ve literally never pre conditioned before, and the battery was around 70degrees when I first plugged into charger. The screen said it was ready to accept 100kWh, and the Tesla tried to go to 200, so I’m guessing that was the problem? But still, why didn’t the car just slow it down? And considering I pre conditioned for 45 min prior i was even more surprised to get this error. Any help appreciated! I could have gotten stranded if I didn’t have enough to go to a different location.

I'm not sure what's up with your vehicle but the EVSE (Tesla or other) will not deliver more power than the vehicle can accept. I'd open a service ticket with Rivian and have them investigate. Perhaps there is a bug related to manual preconditioning, perhaps there was an issue with your Tesla adapter, or perhaps something else. Did you ultimately charge successfully via CCS or NACS?

What happened at the other location? Any errors? What type of charger was it? What adapter were you using at the Tesla site? A photo of the adapter to be certain it was a supercharger adapter and not a level 2 adapter.

There's no chance it was a level 2 adapter. OP said they received 200kw for a small amount of time. Level 2 charger lacks the DC pins to work at all at a supercharger.

I think it's most likely a problem with the vehicle or that particular charging site.

Was it a Tesla station open to other EVs? In other words, did it show up on the Rivian map or was it one you found on Google? I have found Tesla stations to be super reliable as long as they are open, otherwise I've seen these kind of errors occur.

I had the same warning message last month at a RAN charging site. I had used navigation to get to the charging site, but never noticed whether it preconditioned or not. Rivian support asked me to try and duplicate the problem, but I don't really want to get to the RAN 45 miles from home, with 13% charge remaining and find out it won't charge. I've got a 2023 quad R1T with >50k miles on it

Getting an error seems to indicate it was open to NACS vehicles.

Unless something has changed recently plugging into a non-NACS Supercharger you get a message on the truck display saying waiting on charger, it just sits like that.
