Clicking noise from rear at low speed

I had this issue as well, they replaced one of the rear disconnect axles.

Well, got the vehicle back after 4 weeks. They fixed some other issues but did not fix the clicking from the axle. Really disappointing.

You have to be persistent with them. Rivian service people are masters of gaslighting you in thinking it’s “normal” or “within spec”

I just stumbled across your post in my doom scrolling as I await my R1S later this month.
I watched your video and from what it looked like from the inside/under car view was that your CV axle has slack so when you rotate the wheel the CV axle boot ever so slightly lags behind the tire rotation. If you slow down the video to 1/2 speed I swear I could see it but having a chalk mark on the boot would make it clearer. This sounds a little similar to my ICE vehicle did when my front CV axles needed to be replaced last year.

Watching this thread. I feel like this is a common sound I get from the front. It can sound like a rattle when going over bumpy roads. It's gotta be somewhere in that hub/knuckle connection or CV boot.

I dropped off my '23 R1S (18k) to address the tocking issue this morning, and got my vehicle back in the afternoon. Attached is what they did.

For me, the tocking sound would easily happen at low speeds, when going from acceleration to deceleration, and vice versa. I was able to reproduce it for the service rep about a dozen times just going around the block at the service center. During the drive, the service rep had me worried when he said sounds from backlash are normal.

I thought the sound was coming from the rear, but I could be wrong. They replaced the front halfshaft and the tocking sound is gone. Fingers crossed that it doesn't come back, and that I don't have the same issue with the rear halfshaft over time.

Bumping this thread. In the market for used and just test drove a ‘23 R1S with this exact issue - down to the comment that I wondered if it was a nail or rock in the tire. When we got up to higher speeds, it completely vanished, so I was convinced the pebble just flew out of the tire.

But as soon as we were back in the neighborhood the clicking reoccurred. We asked the owners and they said they’d been told by Rivian it was actually some interplay between the rear tailgate padding that knocks against itself gently at low speeds.

Obviously I have no way of verifying if that’s actually true, or just something you tell someone to make them more comfortable with a car you’re trying to sell them - but the noise did seem isolated to the rear, though it did not seem like a noise that was inside the cabin itself.

Anyone else dealing or dealt with this?

In my case it was related to one of the decouplers on rear wheels (quad)
This should be fixed at service center.
The cause was unknown to me, and I was told this does not make car unsafe to drive.
