I agree that this is prevalent and effects many vehicles however, there is a large swath of vehicles that are unaffected and drive great.

Pretty amazing that you have to play the lottery to get an $80k vehicle that doesn't clunk and make noise like a 20 year old used ford.

Mine has the annoying CLUNK front left drivers side (strut replaced under warranty inside 5,000 miles) and going to Denver service center in 2 weeks to hopefully at least get the new bolts. It’s honestly embarrassing, pulling up anywhere and having this truck click and clunk all over the place. You can clearly hear it in this video and only happens at low speed. Love the truck otherwise.

Wow! My truck is silent compared to yours… mine only clunk when I go over bumps at 20mph.
If my truck would have sounded like that, I’d go crazy and drive it straight into a lake

Yup - pretty annoying! Has not always been this way. Just in the last few thousand miles. Currently have 21k.

The play you are seeing is the clunk and is likely coming from having the old hub nut with old washer. Try having then swap it out. I known this seems to good to be true but it was. In order to for it to be able to move it has to move on both ends and it can “appear” to be on the inner but it’s the outer that moved since they are connected. The washer and nut tighten it up so it’s quiet again. I could not believe the never ending climb went away. I started driving differently when accelerated and stopped in order to avoid the clunking noise. After they fixed it, it felt so strange to just drive normal as I realized how much I was adjusting my driving style.
entirely possible. When time allows I am going to play with driving in different ride heights to see if the noise is lessened or changes.

My truck is a March 2023 build and my understanding was that it already had the washers. I did mention it on a service request around 12k mi and they said the noise was "normal". When it first started it sounded like a loose belly pan. The belly pan is secure though.

I would say this noise started probably around 7-8k mi but it got significantly worse after the big update which got me thinking it was something with suspension/dampers.

When Rivian says it is “normal” they are really saying it is operating as designed. My LE QM R1T started making the same noises at 3,000 miles and notwithstanding multiple “repairs” only got worse over time. Ultimately, at 12,000 miles, the subframe and front drive unit were replaced all to no avail. Then began Rivian’s slow walk responding to my demand that the vehicle be replaced. After several months of “discussions” Rivian finally agreed to replace it at my insistence with a DM R1T. While the new vehicle only has 3,000 miles at the moment what a difference. Absolutely quiet and solid. I know there are QM R1T owners who have not experienced the problems I did but I refused to accept a replacement QM R1T.

Yes that is the sound that would not go away. Mention the new bolt and washer and that should resolve it finally.

Mine :-(

Front driver side, on changes from acceleration to deceleration. Forward a reverse. Video is on max height, but it happens on all levels.

The only thing that solved that for me were the new washers. I had to have them done twice.

Same sound, perhaps not as bad. Mine went into the Denver Service Center yesterday around noon, had it back today around the same time. 24 hour turn. The service guys call it "the tings" and that's what my truck needed. As you probably know, there is a service bulletin out for these but it was never applied to my truck so I never got anything. But now it's fixed and the sound is gone.

I think what bothers me more than the sound, is the feeling of a deadband around the start and coastpoints that seems associated with it. You push (or pull back on) the pedal and there’s a little bit of space where nothing happens before suddenly “clunk-click-tock”, and the acceleration/deceleration engages. If someone can make that go away, even if some sound remains, the driving experience would be so much better.
