I just picked up an r1s I have a few more days to return. I’m considering returning it due to some issues which I don’t want to deal with. I don’t have the patience to keep opening tickets.

Do they refund the taxes and delivery fees also during the 7 day window? Or do I need to file an abatement? Are they going to try to convince me to keep the car or is it a no hassle experience?

thanks for anyfeedback

I asked to return my R1S within 2 days of delivery because of paint issues I discovered and Rivian did not object. They refund 100% of the cost of the vehicle (incl. taxes and fees) according to the repurchase agreement I signed. That said, I returned the car on 5/19 and I still haven't received a refund as of 6/18.

I’m honestly considering returning/ selling mine too! I was so excited for it but Im just not feeling it. A past of me wants to keep it because it’s electric and would help with my 137 mile daily commute. Then I start to analyze the overall vehicle and see how the fit and finish just isn’t there. I feel sorry for those buying these with post March 2022 pricing. I’ve been playing with the ride settings as I don’t like how it rides. I feel stiff option feels better than soft. How is that possible?! Im giving it a few more days before I figure out what I want to do. I guess I’ve been spoiled by my Range Rover.

wow. I've owned 10 cars in my life including 2 different Model S and the R1S is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned. My friends that have them feel the same way. I can see that maybe a vehicle here or there doesn't meet expectations which is very unfortunate but the overall consensus it seems that the car is worth every penny.

It took Tesla 7 months to return my money. Hope Rivian will do it faster

We’re on our 7th day.
Been debating since pickup if we should return it.
Cosmetic issues (panel alignment, hood, hatch).
Very heavy vehicle with imprecise steering feel (but at least straight and no shaking).
Ride is really harsh (one of the reasons I sold my M3 Comp a few years ago) and I can’t seem to find the right setting for it to be pleasant.
Throttle response in all purpose isn’t very impressive (better in sport).
I really like the overall idea of the vehicle. But I can’t seem to fall in love with it and seriously I can’t believe some people pay full price for these.
I really want to feel like a fanboy but I can’t.
We’ll probably keep it. Get it fixed (if they can). And see how we feel in a few months.
Apologies for the rant.

Consistency is issue. Some get lucky, others not so much in terms of the finished product.. You may be one of the lucky ones. I am enjoying my S, but I also think I got lucky.

I'm on day three and loving the R1T...I'm a 23xxx vin. I just spent the day washing and waxing it (it's the best way to see imperfections while also being productive). In that time I only came across one small paint irregularity.

In my wholly unscientific observation, it seems there's more inconsistency in the R1S than the R1Ts...I wonder if Rivian just hasn't dialed in the S yet...

not sure that I'm lucky rather than there are some unlucky purchasers out there. Perhaps the nature of forums makes it seem that the number of dissatisfied owners out there is a larger proportion of deliveries than in actuality. R1S vin is up to 13xxx now

I think it has more to do with people’s general inability to pay attention to details.

I'm a 004xx and loving my R1S. I think it is a little of all... what other mentioned. I would say... if you have any doubts and within the returning period, do it! This will actually trigger the alarm on the Rivian QC department for improvements.

I’ve owned ten electric vehicles over twelve years and the Rivian is ranked #8 in reliability so far, ahead of only two horrific Tesla Xs (one a lemon). It may drop further over time, but I hope it doesn’t. Unlike the Teslas the doors seem to reliably open and close. For that I am grateful.

The R1S is significant because it is the first full size seven seat SUV (the Model X doesn’t count). That makes it worth the purchase. But it is not a great car. It isn’t even a good car. It is built pretty badly. It’s just the first in its market segment. That’s what is good about it. It’s first.
