@OverZealous good luck... keep us posted if the mobile tech has any idea what the underlying cause is!

I've had the R1T for one month now, and it's an amazing machine.

I recently went on a road trip for the 4th of July (about 700 miles round trip).

When I hopped in the truck to go to work on Tuesday, I noticed it had started to make a creaking sound when initially accelerating or when the truck is almost to a complete stop. I found out I could replicate the sound by "rocking" on the accelerator at slow speeds.

My question is this- has anybody else dealt with this? If so, what's the underlying issue?

I had this noise as well. I put in a SC ticket, but have not heard back in nearly a month. In the meantime, I've experienced no issues while putting about 3K on the truck (including towing heavy loads). I think the noise may have gone away on it's own.

Well, that didn't really work out. I had a few small issues to be worked on. They were supposed to come "in the morning", but didn't make it until noon. It's a 300 mile drive, so I understand that, but they need better scheduling. We had only taken the morning slot because we had an afternoon appointment, and figured the few fixes would take under an hour.

The one issue was the key fob has never worked (it never paired correctly). I figured the plan was to just bring a new one and swap it, but instead they had the poor tech spend almost 3 hours trying to get the old one working (which is clearly a broken fob). Finally he paired the new one, which took 2 minutes.

In the end, we had to get going, so we never got a chance for him to look at the squeaks. I'll have to keep an ear out for them, and if they continue, we'll just file another service ticket.

I really liked the mobile tech, and spent the whole time with him while he worked. Learned a lot of small things about Rivian (and talked a lot about Tesla, since he came from there).

Mine started doing it on the driver side at about 1100 miles. 1300 miles in and it’s now on both front sides.
Going to open a ticket on Monday as am
Off camping this weekend!
So many people have commented on it.
I can even feel sometimes through the accelerator pedal.

I have a mobile service appointment this coming Wednesday to address the creaking and a couple of other minor issues.

When speaking to Service on the phone this afternoon, they sounded confident that they'd be able to resolve the creaking...

Unfortunately I'll be out of town while the tech is making the fixes, but I'll report back next Friday with an update as to what causes the creaking and a (hopeful) resolution.

Mobile Service was able to resolve the creaking issue! What a relief.

I'm not a mechanic, but it sounded like the remedy was as simple as removing the front tires to do a little cleaning and re-greasing of the axles, and then re-torquing of some nuts/bolts.

Let's hope that noise doesn't come back anytime soon...

Keep us updated on if this noise comes back in another 2000 miles. Mine started making this noise this past Monday (at 2.5k miles) and it has gotten much louder since. I have a service appointment but not until September 9th. Currently they say I'll do no damage by driving but it is so loud and distracting ha.

I'm ok with a delayed fix as long as it is ok to drive and is unlikely to return in another 3 months or so.

@G_Land79 I've added a little over 2k miles to the truck since the creaking issue was resolved. The sound hasn't come back, but I do have the occasional "tock" when starting and stopping. Honestly you can only hear it when the window is rolled down.

The mobile tech said this is just slop in the axle / CVs, but they'd keep an eye on it. He did make a note about the "tock" and mentioned they might be able to work on that in the future, but they're prioritizing deliveries currently and issues that are deemed minor will have to wait a bit.

Hope you were able to get your noise sorted out!

Thanks for the update. They have not fixed my issue yet, it’s more embarrassing than anything else. :)

There is inside the office talk and outside the office talk. Telling a customer they are prioritizing deliveries over fixing already delivered and paid for vehicles, should definitely be inside the office talk. Some training is definitely needed on managing the customer relationships.

They fixed mine yesterday and the sound is gone now. Finally feel ok dropping the kids off at school without the embarrassing creak ha.

I have a slight tick on and off throttle at low speeds similar to what you've said but I'm not too worried about that.

I also had them put in bolts in the plastic shielding underneath where they were missing and that removed a lot of my noise on bumps as well.

While not fixing your tock issue, I appreciate the transparency in their dealings with you. At least they didn't blow smoke.

To quote @OutofSpecKyle "Back in America and the Rivian was picked up from service yesterday and all of the clunks were totally fixed!

My understanding is that this is a temporary fix until a full re-engineering of the half shaft situation is done but wow, nice to have this thing feeling super solid"

For what it's worth, I have the same issues as those identified by the OP. Guess I'll submit a ticket now. Thx for posting.
