Got a quick question on plugging in and waiting for off peak hours to start.
For my first couple months of ownership, I had a level 2 charger and I simply plugged in and it would charge to completion, usually 70%. I never used the Rivian app schedule because there was no real reason to.
However, I recently signed up (FPL in Florida) for their home charging program. $31 for unlimited off peak charging and they included a wallbox charger and install of it. I figure this will save me about $70 a month based on my usage. Look into it if you live in Florida. FPL EVolution.
Anyhow, since I got the wallbox charger, I plug it in when I park, say around 5PM and in theory the FPL/wallbox app will only allow juice to flow beginning at 10PM. Note that I have not tried to use the Rivian app schedule function in conjunction.
The FPL/wallbox app communicates with the wallbox charger and only starts flowing during off-peak. Sometimes this has worked perfectly and the juice starts flowing at 10:00pm. And other times the Rivian notes an error and asks me to replug in. Sometimes, it will begin charging at 10 seemingly ignoring the error and other times the error will not allow charging. This cost me a few days ago when I went to sleep and the truck errored out and didnt charge at all and I only realized in the morning (and had to go on a 250 mile trip).
Has anyone else experienced this?
I imagine I might be able to eliminate the error by scheduling the Rivian App for 10:00 pm as well. Thereby letting the truck know not to expect juice until 10pm. I don't love this answer given how simple the Rivian app scheduler is. You can only establish a beginning and end and you can't have multiple different time periods.
Thanks for any thoughts.
