Did Rivian Stop Building/Deploying DC Fast Chargers?

It's been months since I've seen Rivian post about adding any new DC fast charging stations. Rivian promised 600 sites by the end of 2023, but to date they have deployed only about 18, or an average of one per month, so it doesn't feel like this is an area they are putting many resources into. Meanwhile Tesla has new sites coming online daily. What do you guys think? Is this a cost cutting measure? I understand they need to preserve capital, but I really wish they would have delivered on the promises made about their charging network.

Maybe Rivian hasn’t posted about it, but there have been multiple threads and posts here from people who are seeing new DCFCs being installed in real life. Search the forum for “RAN” chargers and you’ll find some.

Still building them. And Rivian didn’t “promise” anything. They had a roadmap and it moved to the right. Things happen.

Closest station to me is waiting on some long-lead parts that Rivian is struggling to get. RAN tech I spoke with had no idea what the parts were. Sounded like his job is just to turn up the stations after everything is installed.

I think Rivian is struggling with the same thing for the Amazon distribution centers.

I hope they stop playing power distributor and focus on building high quality trucks. And get those R2's on the road...asap.

Yes I agree the idea of placing in remote spots mostly and not where most people live around cities makes it easier to offer for free for the first year, when I would need to drive to Blowing Rock NC from Winston Salem to experience a free charge on the Rivian Network ?

the "600 by end of 2023" ship sailed a long time ago. they removed that from their website last year.

it is a bit frustrating how slowly its growing since that was one of the differentiators when they were trying to sell customers on the brand. that we'd have all these DCFC chargers and itd be free with Membership but both of those haven't happened and the free charging ends at the end of this month.

i live in WA and we have one DCFC and thats it. not even 1 waypoint charger. pretty sad.

They've got 22 open right now, 29 more known to be under construction, 47 more where the address is known because of permitting or other public records. That's 98 that are publicly known to be in some sort of status other than pipe dream. There are quite a few more that just aren't known about yet because not all public permitting systems are online or easy to search.

Rivian also mentioned that they will be participating in the federal infrastructure funds allotted for building out new EV chargers, starting in 2024, so that will feed them additional funding just for DCFCs. That doesn't help them navigate the endless paperwork and committees and time that permitting and installing each of these sites will require, but it should help alleviate any potential funding crunch for this effort in the near term.

This also means however, that the Rivian Adventure Network will be opened up to non-Rivians, as is required by the infrastructure bill for the EV Charging networks that get this funding. Whether Rivian has to open up the entire network or not, remains to be seen.
