Why not have it automatically reengage once stable in new lane?
Any near-future automatic lane changing?

I think the answer is: It's still very early days for Driver+.

I know that's not the best answer, but I think that's the "official" answer.

I have a very different problem. I want to turn it off and I don't know how. I posted the details about it here.

Agreed, my 2019 Volvo reengages when back in lane . . .

The lane-keeping will reengage after lane change in my Telluride.

…and what is the timeline on more auto-drive functions? Come pick me up in the parking lot? Hands-free on highway? Hands-free in town?
I am eagerly awaiting the future and I want it to come faster!!

Even Tesla did this until pretty recently unless you had paid for full self driving (currently $15k or subscription for $199/mo). A recent update allows auto-lane change by activating the turn signal….something for a future Rivian OTA maybe..

KIA & Hyundai both re-engage when centered in new lane.

I have a Mach E with BlueCruise, and although it is not perfect, it actually is very good. It can do the equivalent of Driver+ on any road without disengaging. On mapped roads it allows hands free, but if that disengages, it just tells you to put your hand back on the wheel, and still keeps lane centering.

Driver+ is not even a good adaptive cruise control system. My truck often slows down when I try to pass a vehicle to the right of me, it thinks that vehicle is in my lane. They are far from having automatic lane change or hands free driving. Having to double pump the lever to re-engage is so annoying, and sometimes when it goes off (loss of mapped road) it leaves ACC on, at other times it decides to disengage everything. I cannot even figure out the logic behind it.

If it detects you're taking over, ACC will stay on. If not then the whole system shuts off.

Guess I have to squeeze the steering wheel extra hard. :)
