I would most definitely assume there will be a software performance update to the dual motor platform, they would be stupid to not offer it. Easy $$ for all the non performance dual motors out there as I would imagine the take rate would be pretty high.

Yeah that's the hard part - of the 3 things on my non-negotiable list, the only one that can be added later is the performance software. But I'm with you, with how fast things change at Rivian (and how long some software seems to take) I would rather not rely on that.

That's the thing. It CAN and has been done. But for some reason they won't do it anymore (at least according to the costumer service rep). I'm still waiting on a phone call from a sales rep who hopefully knows something more?
They straight up refused last month when I requested the same thing. I'm like, "you don't understand, I don't want this for free, I want to pay you for it right now".

Yikes! I don't like the sound of that. That sounds exactly like the conversation I was having with the customer service person. I'm beginning to wonder it it's not so much an issue of doing the software configuration, but more of a billing issue. Like they can't update the build options and cost for financing? It seems that most people that are reporting the SC turning it on are ppl who already had performance on their build. (or got it as part of the free upgrade incentive)

Since they are planning to make this an update you can purchase later, I'm guessing not. But also I don't wanna wait for an indefinite timeline on that software upgrade

I just spoke to Rivian chat a little while ago and they confirmed that they will have an option in the future to purchase the upgrade from dual to Performance dual in the future. There is no date yet for when they will do this.
And nothing in the works for battery upgrade from Standard+ to Large.

The only people I know that have gotten this post delivery were the ones that took delivery of a DM when they were pricing the PDM the same.

I can confirm this is indeed only a software lock, as they came out and did this in my driveway shortly after I took delivery. I now have sport and sand mode, and the GF screams when I floor it in sport mode, which she didn't do when in all purpose mode.

This is why I suspect it could be more of an issue of billing/modifying finances than it is a logistical/practical issue

Not if they do it as a paid upgrade like Tesla does where you pay the flat fee. The only potential issue is on the residual, which should only help me since mine would be worth a few thousand more than what the paperwork says for my lease.

Does anyone have the Performance Upgrade on a Gen2 R1S and can they give their thoughts on it. I was told by Rivian it is an on demand use and only available when you are using Sport mode which in the Gen1 R1S could be very bumpy in the ride. I am trying to understand the value in the upgrade if it is only on one mode, you must choose it every time you get into the car and it has no value in all purpose mode. Maybe they will do some software updates to get it to work in the other modes. It seems to have a limiting factor thus my question to Gen2 and even Gen1 owners, was it worth the upgrade at purchase?

I can't speak to the Gen 2 R1S Performance upgrade, or even to the Gen 1 Performance Dual, but I loving driving in Sport mode with the Gen 1 Quad in both the R1T and R1S. It's my preferred drive mode.

I have a Gen 2 R1S dual and can’t understand why anyone would need to go faster than that in a 7000 pound SUV. Good on you if you got the other motors, but it’s not for me.

I have a G1, but yes, it's very disappointing that the truck defaults to all purpose after a sleep. Not only is the throttle response in all purpose mode pretty mushy, but you don't even get all the power available if you floor it. Rivian has really shot themselves in the foot here by discouraging people from utilizing the performance that people pay for. If I buy another R1T down the road, I'm less likely to consider a higher performance trim because of this.

Did you notice any value of increase power in the Sport mode and how clunky was it? Mine is clunky with the Quad. I know this will be a tradeoff weather I get the Dual Motor with or without the Performance Upgrade.

Yes, in addition to the sharper throttle response, it feels like the truck picks up 100-150 hp when in sport mode. Since the standard truck has 533 hp and the dual performance has 665, my guess is each truck performs the same when in all purpose mode.

I don't feel like the performance dual truck is clunky, though I also didn't think the quad was clunky when I took it on a test drive, though I primarily drove in sport mode.
