Hi fellow early reservation holders. I just got a call from my Rivian guide trying to talk us into taking advantage of the 20% odd for early reservation holders. She said after September all early reservations will be converted to the new pricing. To me this hints at the R1 refresh with tri-motor. It will be cheaper for them to produce so they want to sell it without any discounts.

What are you all doing if you have an early reservation.

Don’t bite now. I have a strong suspicion that Rivian has some surprises up it’s sleeve.

An improved R1 is coming and will be worth the wait. This would be a perfect time to perform a minor styling refresh, add new colors and possibly introduce new trim levels. A suspect we will also see a 1k+ HP R1X this year using an Enduro Quad Motor setup.

I decided to purchase now because I would hate myself if Forest Edge and Ash Wood interior was removed with the refresh. The vehicle is fantastic the way it is, and who knows what the future will be beyond the motor configurations we’ve recently seen.

I think they'll keep these as options, but will reconfigure the wood to avoid complex wrapping and cutting in the current R1. If you look at the dash of the R2, you'll see what I mean. The Sandy Monroe team did a video on the extreme complexity of the woodwork on the R1.

Agreed in most everything. I just don't think they'll allow pre-hike pricing on these, which is why I traded in my 2023 R1S for a 2024 R1S this week.

Those with the price voucher likely won’t nor should get the updated models because they are already getting the benefit of 2020 pricing.

That might be true but I’m willing to bet that pre price hike orders wont be able to buy it.

The R1 has been out for a long time and the last major pre-price feature to be released seas the Max Pack. Unless you live too far from a service center, it’s time to either buy or not.

Rivian is in business to make money and they need to do it without these early price holders dragging down their profit margins.

That's not the reason, if the new one was cheaper for them to produce they'd want to push you to that to save them money.

No, what appears to be happening (and it's not just those with a 20% coupon) is that the refresh is coming, and they are concerned that it's going to make everything in the shop "last years model" which won't sell without very very steep discounts. So they are trying to sell everything they have right now (with minimal discounts), to hopefully get the shop down to zero stock, then they can announce the refresh specs.

They even seem to have cleared out the demo vehicles, implying that they are no longer representative of what they are going to be selling.

I believe Rivian will not allow pre-order price vouchers to be applied to refreshed vehicles.

You will have till September to get one with pre order pricing or after that you will pay the full price which will probably be discounted slightly for pre-refresh models versus refreshed models until they run out of inventory.

Well a lot of speculation. I think I’ll wait and see. With a 9 dollar stock price I’m not ready to bite just yet. Unfortunately I won’t see positive revenues before buying due to the sept deadline.

I am seriously considering leasing to buy because I can take advantage of the $7,500 since they don’t take $7,500 off of you bought the car out right. The rep said you would have to file taxes but who wants to deal with uncle same and possibly be denied the credit.

“nor should”?

Why? Should Rivian have denied the original pricing to everyone? If not, what’s wrong with their approach?

And if Rivian doesn’t want voucher holders to get the refreshed vehicles, shouldn’t they have simply said so? (In fact, shouldn’t they have said so about six month ago?)

Technically, voucher holders are no longer getting 2020 pricing, really. It’s a 20% discount and it will likely be a discount off of changed pricing.

To be candid, I feel like you don’t like me just because I’m waiting for the refreshed vehicles to come out—but that’s only because I waited forever (and ever and ever) and then, finally (in Feb), it seemed silly not to wait for the refresh so I put the order on hold. (I had even confirmed in October, thinking it must be imminent, made it non refundable, but then crickets.)

I'm surprised they are calling you. From Rivian's (financial) perspective, wouldn't it be best to try and minimize the number of pre-price hike reservation holders who purchase vehicles before September given the 20% discount?

I was FINALLY offered to confirm my preorder in FEB (pre price hike) and have not heard a thing from Rivian since. I was offered shop access but decided to keep my custom config. Now the shutdown has occurred. Will I receive a refreshed build? I have not been assigned a VIN, hmmmm.
