My 2022 R1T started making these extremely weird noises suddenly today. I couldn’t figure out where in the truck it’s coming from it happens while accelerating and cruising, and I can’t figure out the pattern for it. Anyone experience anything similar?

Looks like you’re in a ‘22 quad. Just a guess but it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s the rear drive coupler that disengages for conserve mode.

Wild guess: some sort of leakage from the suspension. It sounds the way I would imagine it sounding if the pneumatics were trying to fill while air was escaping. Just spitballing. But I do think it's worth a visit to a Service Center.

Let us know what they say! Now I'm super curious.

Maybe check your underbody panels are all secure and aren't buffeting in the wind. Also, check for leaking fluid, I'm guessing front drive units if anything mechanical.

ya first thing I checked was leaking, something loose, etc. Everything appears normal and no display warnings or alerts.

service center is supposed to get back to me on Monday

Hard to tell from the video, some suggestions to try to narrow it down:
  1. Turn on & off HVAC
  2. Adjust suspension height
  3. See if it's louder or you can narrow it down more with the windows down
  4. At least try to decipher a speed or condition it happens at

Under what conditions were those noises? Speed, road bumpiness, etc.
Acceleration is loud and higher picked and deceleration/regen is grinding and heavier, and really intense and slow speeds as well.

No grinding noise? No warning lights?

To me, it sounds like a cover fell off your motor, or like your motor ran out of oil/fluid.

Just from your video it sounds like something loose, maybe rotating or flapping, and randomly hitting something. I would think anything associated with a motor would be more consistent and sinister sounding. It doesn’t sound like the air suspension, either. I had a failed air suspension on a GMC and the only thing I heard was the air pump running and the GMC kept bottoming out when sitting. I’d check the various Rivian TSB’s and recalls. Seems like there was something about a nut in the suspension that tended to loosen. If you do regular service through Rivian I think they check for these.

The noise has a grinding element to it. It’s not louder when I open the windows— it sounds like it’s coming from the center of floor in the back seat area. no warning lights.

The noise got very loud as I slowed to a stop and the truck sort of stuttered a little. I wonder if it could be the brakes? Either way Rivian is letting me drop off in Burbank tomorrow and got me a rental. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to a service center and glad it’s not el segundo!

It's always a bit difficult to deciper these sounds, and worse when it's a recording on a phone. With that said, my opinion is that it's rotation based. Something in the drivetrain is going bad, or something possibly rubbing against a half shaft.
