Just returned from a long road trip; the R1S is a great road car, and it is time for the first service and a couple adjustments/repairs.
The next available service appointment is in August, four months out.

Is that at the Auburn location? If you just want the 7500 mile service/rotate Bellevue usually gets me in within a few days. If you want other non-critical stuff done, then yes there is a long wait.

Hopefully Rivian plans to improve this.

Would continue to reach out to them to see if another time opens up. I waited about that long for a dash rattle repair...

Talked to the others in the lobby while waiting, their wait times were weeks. One guy had only owned his car for 2-weeks and already came in for a minor repair.

I asked my advisor why my wait was so long when everyone else had short waits, he had no clue why mine was that long.

If it's just the 7500 mile and a couple other small things, mobile service can do it. Did you speak with anyone at Rivian yet? If you just go by the available dates in the app it mostly represents the dates they can intake a vehicle into the service center. A service advisor can see priority dates and also submit as a possibility for mobile service, although the facility in question makes the final determination on that I believe.

Another Ken. Did you forget that you signed up to be an early adopter? Or you, for whatever reason, never thought of it and committed yourself to something without having both eyes open?

This is in no way excusing Rivian. This is a statement of fact. This is how it is until they are successful enough to have the ability to expand all areas of operation—without being fiscally irresponsible. Successful R2 production/deliveries is the turning point, in either direction.

This is how it is and how it's been. Big boy pants on and work with it. Or walk.

My experience is usually the opposite- Auburn gets me in nearly immediately and Bellevue is an eternity.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to imply the opposite. I was just wondering, since the OP is from Kent, whether he was claiming a 4 month wait for the Auburn center near him - that would be news to me because I thought Auburn has much shorter wait times. If the OP hasn't asked about getting an appointment in Auburn, that might be something to do if he wants faster service.

4 months from Bellevue on the other hand is pretty standard for most non-critical issues, BUT it has been my experience that, as part of improving service times, Bellevue has set aside appointments for routine maintenance, or maybe even has dedicated employees for routine maintenance.

Regardless, I've had Bellevue rotate my tires 4 times now, and for three of those times I was able to get an appointment for the NEXT DAY. The other time, I had to schedule 1 week out. Since panel gap fixes etc are 4 months, that tells me they are streamlining the operation so that routine things like tire rotations can be handled expediently.

*Major* problems seem to get handled immediately as well at Bellevue. It's only non-critical things that seem to have a long time schedule. I think that's a reasonable strategy, but it does suck if you want some minor problems fixed.

And again, for comparison, I have a Honda where the AC went out last spring, and no Honda dealer could get me in to fix it in less than 4 months. So I spent the entire summer without AC (warranty fix so I had to take it to the dealer). As far as I can tell, this sort of thing is a problem with most dealers these days for whatever reason. Rivian is certainly more sensitive to problems in the labor market or supply chain than a big manufacturer like Honda, so if Honda is having these problems it's really not surprising that Rivian is too.

Gotcha, I’m with you! Fully agree.

That's crazy. Must be where you are located. In San Diego I was able to schedule an appointment on the app in just a weeks time. They rolled a service van to my office and even showed up early. The communication up to the appointment, during, and following was excellent.

If its just tire type stuff just use a local tire shop. No need to use Rivian for it. I use a local tire place for both my Rivian and Tesla. Otherwise I only take them to the Rivian/Tesla in when something breaks which is pretty rare (less rare on the Tesla with its quirky windows/door handles).

Update: I received a phone call from Rivian on my service ticket last night, (7 pm, Sunday), they gave me an appointment at the Auburn, WA center in two weeks. A much more reasonable time frame.
I don't know why the app doesn't book for that location, but I'm very happy that the company is looking at service tickets and following up.

Rivian really needs to pay more attention to their service model. If they are able to start selling the R2 and they have not greatly expanded their service and repair locations and capabilities, the Rivian dream may implode before their eyes.
