Gen 1 Quad Large vs Gen 2 Dual Max

I'm in Canada (if that matters). There are some incentives on Gen 1 trucks and I can get a gen 1 quad large for a bit less than a gen 2 dual max. Quad has the performance but the dual max has a lot more range (and the gen 2 upgrades). Thoughts one way or the other? My other option is to save more money and just get the tri motor with the super nice sky interior.

Having done from a Quad Large to a Dual Max, I would do the Dual Max all day long -- regardless of the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2.

The acceleration difference is there, but not overwhelming. Sport mode is neat. Yellow calipers are nice. Maybe some offroad chops?

First Gen Quad Large here- If I could do it over again, it would be Gen 2 Dual Large - range difference between Large and Max is negligible in real world (22 miles more for the Max Pack) vs EPA. Also, consider max payload if you would be hauling stuff or installing a topper camper.

Thanks. Payload isn't a huge deal for me, I don't see loading it up to the max very often.
The Gen 2 range difference, on paper, is 145km (90 miles), between Large and Max. I did see Kyle's test before, where they only got 22 miles of extra range, maybe the Gen 2 has a bigger delta?

For me....I won't give up my G1 QM for anything....love it too much. All about priorities. Do you prioritize range....G2 DM.....do you prioritize max performance available at moment...G1 QM.

Or wait for TM and get G2 improvements and TM range with even better performance than G1 QM.

What was your main driver to go to the gen 2 truck?
I actually went to a newer Gen 1 truck. It was largely based on increased range and cost. My QM has AT rims on it and topped out at around 270 miles of range. My Dual has the 21" road setup and can do 411 theoretically, or about 380 in practice on a roadtrip.

I have the Gen 1 quad and DM large. Bought the DM recently and wished I would have bought another quad. The extra range is a plus for DM but the handling and acceleration is very noticable to me even with stability mode put on reduced on DM. The quad is just a different animal

Fair, that is a good hour+ of extra driving at highway speeds before you need to charge.

I've owned both. The Quad was faster - it amazes me that 1/2 a second is clearly noticeable. The Dual Max is still crazy fast and instantly responsive any time you have the feeling or the need. I daily drive a BMW M2 and the Dual Max still gives me thrills when I drive it.
The additional range was the key for me. I go on a 2-3 month, 15,000 mile roadtrip every summer towing an Airstream. And I take other long trips. The extra range in the Max (along with an A2Z Tesla Supercharger adapter) took my charging/range stress (especially in the Great Plains, Southwest and Intermountain West) from a 9:10 in 2023 with the Quad Large to a 2:10 this summer with the Dual Max. For my scenario and long distance needs the Dual Max is awesome.

Gen 1 quad large battery is 131 kWh usable. Gen 2 dual max battery is 141 kWh usable. On the same tires, with the quad in conserve mode, the difference is probably not more than 30-40 miles.

There are considerations about how outdated the Gen 1 will get and resale value, but I think the main question is how important the range is to you on road trips. For me, quad large even on the inefficient all-terrain tires (270 mile listed range) has been great on our few road trips. Stop every 2.5-3 hours for 30-40 minutes.

Thanks. Range is quite important to me overall. I just completed a 1650km (~1030 miles) road trip in my F-150 and even with the V8 I can do >1000km (~620 miles) on a tank. When on my own I barely stop but with only 270 miles of range that would be an additional 80 minutes of time on the trip. I think I'm leaning towards a Gen 2 dual max or tri max truck, likely with the 22" wheels/tires.

That's a Gen 1 test. Gen 1 large battery is 131 kWh usable, Gen 2 large is only 109. Gen 2 is a bit more efficient but a Gen 1 large will probably have much more range on the highway than a Gen 2 large, at least on the same tires.
So:
Gen 1 large = 131 kWh
Gen 2 large = 109 kWh
Gen 2 max = 141 kWh
