Yeah the atmos tracks are incredibly variable. Better to turn it off. The good atmos tracks do sound great though. Earth Wind and Fire’s September sound phenomenal.

I also downloaded Tidal and started a free trial to see if there is any difference. There isn’t. Bad atmos tracks still sound bad. Much fewer atmos tracks available on Tidal vs Apple.

I’ve also noticed my fade/balance keeps resetting itself every time I get into the car. The sound I feel is getting worse again but I’ve kinda given up on this
I agree...that Atmos Earth Wind and Fire September is amazing!

Edit...sorry just realized this is G2 thread....I am G1...

I had a QM loaner, and the most noticeable difference was the sound stage balance. That's not something we can fix with the EQ.

Ok. Wow. .43 update is the biggest change to the sound system we’ve gotten yet.

The sound stage is fixed- the center front speaker is no longer overpowering. The muddiness is completely gone- the speakers are almost too bright now. Going to need to take some time to completely overhaul the EQ curve because this is a totally different system now. Honestly, it sounds great flat.

Overall, props to the Rivian team. This is the first car I’ve ever owned with OTA updates and I’m just so amazed how they improve this car.

This is great to hear! Alas it seems I’m not in the lucky 20% who got to soak this update.

Now that everyone's hopefully on .43... what EQ curves are people liking with the new build?

Unlike before the preset EQs actually seem to work- I am enjoying the Rock and Hip hop presets. Nonetheless, my custom EQ looks like this- the dip in 4K I’ve found instrumental in tempering the brightness of the system.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else has so far!

Even on Gen 1 Meridian, the sound was too center channel front focused. 43.01 has fixed this. Much better.

I’m still tinkering but am here for now. I’d like a little more rumble on the base but it sounds soooooooo much better with the update. I’m on a gen 2 R1S.

TLDR; Turn on 3D sound, and use a preset of your choice.

It does seem much better. I tried my DIY tuning app and with both 3D and Dynamic Off, it seemed a little weak in the high end (over 1k). So, I can see why beeglowbot tuned it like that. However, if you turn on 3D sound, then it matches much better. It still seems like there is a little bit too much around 400 hz, and a little weak at the top and bottom. I tried looking at dbA and dbC today.

For Gen2 R1S Premium Sound, v2024.43.30:

I may try adjusting the balance slightly left to get it better balanced on the driver.
It was just a little brighter with 3D set to Enhanced. So, if you like it like that, then try turning that on. :)

I only had a few minutes to do the tuning. I'll see how it sounds over the next couple weeks.

EDIT to add: I just noticed the 16k got cut off in the picture. I had that moved up about half way. But since I'm over 40, I can't actually hear sounds over like 14k. So, it likely won't effect me. Maybe my kids will appreciate the sound fidelity. ;)

Hmmm, I'm still having issues with it sounding too much from the center speaker. I've already performed a infotainment reset twice and it didn't change anything. I may try the other reset with the far left button and the hazard button to see if that helps. I'm on 2024.47 now and it's no different than 2024.43
