Much cheaper than I expected. Now I just have to decide if it’s worth $50k to upgrade from a Gen1 quad to a Gen2 quad

I apologize for getting this started. :(
0% your fault, I saw it on Facebook and called them out there too :)

This is not the first, second, or last time.

I assume it’s the same max pack as current gen2 and gen1: 149kWh gross, 140kWh addressable - or are you thinking there’s a new larger capacity max pack?
Yeah, same battery packs in the 2026 models, no difference.

Original G1 crew looking like we got a steal more and more every day. Although I’d be all over a new G2 quad if money wasn’t a consideration, especially with better range.
Exactly.

Those pics look a little launch greenish to me. Would love for slate to be a color option.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I found the actual announcement of the Gen2 QM*:

Introducing the Next Evolution in Electric Adventure: The Gen2 Quad-Motor Rivian R1

We're proud to unveil the Gen2 Quad-Motor Rivian R1T and R1S—refined, re-engineered, and more capable than ever. Built on years of innovation and real-world adventure, the Gen2 R1 brings smarter architecture, enhanced performance, and a new level of responsiveness to every road and trail.

With our next-generation quad-motor system, the Gen2 R1 delivers lightning-fast torque vectoring, near-instantaneous 0–60 launches, and precision terrain response—even in low-gravity environments. Whether you're navigating alpine switchbacks or crossing dry Martian lakebeds, this is control without compromise.

The new Rivian Neural Terrain Processor™ not only adapts in real-time to changing road conditions—it anticipates them before they occur. Combined with our fully-integrated solar core charging array, you’ll spend less time plugging in and more time exploring—on Earth and beyond.

Inside, our spacecraft-grade computing architecture supports quantum-stabilized OTA updates and an all-new software platform, making every drive feel more intelligent, more connected, and more seamless.

This isn’t just a second generation. It’s an evolutionary leap.

The Gen2 R1 is here. Built for every road. And the ones we haven’t discovered yet.
