Got T-boned, Totaled or repairable?

Wife got T-boned with our son. Luckily nobody was hurt. The Megawatt sliders took most of the impact so I think it could have been much worst. No airbags were deployed. You guys think this is totaled or repairable? I've been completely happy with our gen 1 2023 R1S. Spec'd with under carriage shield & factory ppf, blacked out badges, ceramic coated. Too lazy to start over with mods. @ 28k miles, if totaled, wonder how much they would give me.

Really glad that nobody was hurt but with repair costs being what they are....your insurance company will probably consider that "totaled" (based on cost to repair as a percentage of estimated current value)...

WA law:
“In Washington State, a vehicle is deemed totaled when the cost to repair the damage, including parts and labor, plus the salvage value of the vehicle, is equal to or exceeds the actual cash value of the vehicle (ACV) immediately before the damage occurred. Essentially, if the repair costs are too high in relation to the vehicle's pre-accident worth, it's considered a total loss.”

Find out what appraisal sites say your market value is. That does look to be over 50k worth of damage, or very close to it.

On the bright side, it did it's duty and no one got hurt...

Nowadays it's all about "hidden damage" where in many cases that cost can exceed or double/triple the cost of the original estimate(s).

As an example, our i3 got rear-ended two years ago, the original estimate was $5,500.
Once the body shop started working on the car, the "hidden damage" added another $12,600 to the original $5,500 estimate. At that point, Allstate had already paid the body shop $5,500, so they were committed to completing the repair which in the end cost Allstate $18,100 to repair a car I bough 1.5years earlier for just $22K.

Insurers are now painfully aware of "hidden damage" bloat which can easily total a vehicle that has little visible exterior damage. It makes them total vehicles that to us appears to have very little damage.

This. Will be very curious to hear how this plays out since I also have Megawatt sliders. They mount to the truck using some of the bolts that attach the battery pack to the frame, so there's definitely risk of damage to the pack or its mounting points which would automatically total it.

When my wife in our previous BMW X3 got simply sideswiped (though hard) by someone running a light it did less damage than this and it was totaled. That sideways impact bends important stuff.

First off, glad everyone is okay. I imagine the damage here is repairable, but your insurance company might not want to deal with it.

Kinda looks like that "kick-out" forced the rest of the colliding vehicle upwards to me.

Start shopping for a replacement vehicle, just in case it isn't totaled. I think it will be, but I'm not an expert.

Many totals are fixable. At issue is cost and whether owner’s insurance chooses to fix or cut their losses.

Unfortunately, I’m going to guess totaled as my R1T is getting repaired in a shop and my shop said doors are on back order currently. So even if it’s deemed repairable, it will likely be months of waiting. Sorry to hear about the R1S!
