So question to all that currently have a Rivian truck. I plan to buy the R2 and will have a home wall charger installed in my garage. I don’t want to pay the $800 for Rivian’s when I can get a less expensive wall charger like the Tesla or Chargepoint. Does anyone else currently use a different home wall charger instead of Rivian’s, if so can you please share your experience. When I spoke to a Rivian representative I was told if I use another brand home charger that would void the warranty if something were to happened to the vehicle. This sounds crazy to me as people charge their Rivian trucks all the time at various public charging stations that aren’t Rivian. Of course I plan to get a licensed electrician and have them get a permit to install it. I just want to be prepared and know my options when it is time for me to place my order. I am new to EVs and any assistance anyone can share or provide would be greatly appreciated. If I have to purchase the Rivian wall charger to make sure my R2 when I get it charges and will function at its best with their brand I don’t mind paying for it.

Thanks in advance for any responses and assistance

I've had the Tesla Universal in my garage for a few years now and it's been trouble free. I love that I have both connectors built in

It won't void the warranty. I went with an EVIQO after doing a bunch of research. Mostly it was smaller and fit my space the best (and it wasn't Tesla). There is an extensive thread on here already about it. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/are-there-alternatives-to-rivian-level2-charger.58619/
Also use an EVIQO here. Works great and was affordable.

Be sure to check with your local power company, many offer rebates for the purchase and install of chargers. My local provider paid $500 towards the charger (which paid for it in full).

They are all the same. Buy whatever is cheap. Ignore useless features like wifi, since the car gives you all the info you need. I have a Rivian charger because it was free, but had several issues with it. And the wifi has been 100% useless.

Buy a Tesla home charger. Check FB market place as you can always find them new from $300-$350.

My installer told me he has installed thousands of Tesla home chargers and they are best. He has never had issues with them.

Ironically enough, I just had to swap out a friend's because it failed under warranty.

Important information since you live in MD. MD has a EVSE program that will cover 50% of your cost of purchase if you get a specifc charger. I know certain vehicles qualify along with Chargepoint, Emporia, and Wallbox. The 50% covers both installation and price of the level 2 charger. FY 27 should be starting soon.

You might consider one that can be moved around - we have two outlets in garage, will look for one that uses mounting plates - so we can change EVSE location between two of them.

I've been using a Wallbox charger for my Bolts for the past 6 years so I plan on just getting the adaptor to keep using that.

Second using your utility's program to get a charger though. Here in Florida not only does FPL include installation, they give you rock bottom off peak charging rates. It's about $30 a month over 10 years (which is spendy for installation but sadly average for a dedicated 240v outlet install)
