It works to cool the screen. On those days I use a windshield sunscreen to keep the rays off the dash and screen. Not the silver reflective type tho, the gray/black reversible cloth/polyester one. Seems to breath better. Have had all my windows tinted lightly too, except the windshield.
That helps a bunch.
But when it's hot, its hot!

You do that here in FL and you might end up with a seat full of water. It’s Sunny one minute and downpours the next.
Spent lots of time in Tallahassee and Orlando and I don't doubt what you say. Here in Tucson, we pray for rain.

Went to turn my AC on with the app and noticed it was already cooling. It had a message saying “fans running to protect displays”. Is that new or has anyone seen that before? It’s crazy hot here in FL.
I used to get that message, but I have not seen it since the release of 2023.22.00 - even when seeing temperatures of over 130 in the vehicle when parked out in the direct sun.

From the 2023.22.00 release notes:

"Optimized driver and center display overheat protection thresholds to help minimize range loss when vehicles are parked in direct sunlight."

My experience is that whatever they optimized resulted in the "screen protection" no longer working effectively. I sometimes dare not linger on a touch.

Additionally, the ventilated seats no longer work (well) when the vehicle is very hot. For example if the the truck has been sitting in direct summer sun for an hour or so, the ventilated seats don't really do anything at the beginning of the drive. After a time, when the truck either cools, or if the truck temp is cooler at the start of the trip, they work "O.K." But not as cool as they used to. I suspect they have re-directed the software to condition the battery and/or simply save same energy loss.

The perils of a managed device I suppose. On the plus side we get great improvements from time to time. On the negative side, functionality that appeared to work is changed.

I'll remain hopeful that Rivian will continue to monitor and refine, but when I can't touch the screen, something is wrong. I've not experienced this in other vehicles parked in the same place, under the same conditions.

You’re right about the seats. Even precondition ing 20 minutes before getting in they are still hot. They aren’t actually cold until my 30 minute drive home is over. I do love the truck though more than any electric vehicle I’ve had and I’ve had 4 of them. Rivian got it pretty right on the first try and the quality beats most. The quality of my expensive MX wasn’t even close.

And you are right about Rivian getting most things right on the first try. Indeed, prior to 2023.22.00, both the seat cooling and "screen protection" that effectively kept the rest of the truck a *little* cooler, were great.

Kind of stating the obvious, but I've started venting the windows as often as I can remember to which really seems to moderate the inside temps.
I vent mine when there is no chance for rain, close them through the app 5 mins before I leave work then turn the ac on from the app

It could be worse. I wonder how many people are simply looking at the temp when opening the app? Not realizing that you have to wake it up to get a current reading.
