I noticed something odd with my R1s last night. Drove to a friend's house about 30 miles out mostly highway driving about 70 mph highway and we get around 2.3 kwh most of the time. Stop at the house for 30 mins and drove back. On the return trip, we got 1.65 kwh and slowly creep up to 1.90 when got home. Weather was super nice in dallas 65 degree with barely any wind. I even turned off the AC on the drive back.
What give?

Change in elevation?

My house elevation is 512 feet. My friend is 689 feet. So, it should have be reverse if that was true.

I have noticed that if I reset the trip meter and then drive 15 minutes, the trip meter stats do not match the dashboard 15-minute history stats.

And not off by a little bit either. Last time I reset the trip meter, 15 minutes later the dashboard said 3.5 when trip meter said 2.8.

I have no idea which one is accurate or if they're both accurate and measuring different things. The numbers don't line up.

Ignore the value presented, Just look at the energy consumption trend based on the plot. The X-axis is supposed to be 2.0miles/kWh constant line.

You can pretty much tell how you are doing relative to 2.0 kWh/mile. That's about it.

I was driving a steady 45mph the entire time in dense traffic. Slow speeds plus favorable winds caused by the 1,000 cars in front of you all drafting each other is wonderful for your fuel economy ( but awful for your mental health ).

As the OP mentioned, it’s pretty inconsistent. I wish we can get it to show for the entire drive from when the car was turned on to when it shut off, without having to mess with the trip meter.

Whatever they use to calculate it is way off on the last 15 min screen, especially for shorter drives. It’s not a true efficiency average and I don’t know exactly how it’s calculated. I’ve tested this many times (my drive to and from work is exactly 15 min) and it can be magnitudes off from actual efficiency.

My Mach E has that, it is a special This Trip odometer. It resets automatically when the power on the car is cycled. That is way more useful than displaying the last 15 minutes.

Agreed, more useful. My 10 year old Ford Fusion Energi has it also. Got so used to trying to beat my efficiency records.
