Just received an interesting call from Rivian regarding my upcoming service next week. Was told they will install the tang washers at all 4 drive shafts. He also said that as they continue to update/improve at the factory, as an early adopter, they will makes these updates to our vehicles too.
Well, that's scary...because they installed the ting washers on mine last visit and didn't do much, but they have me down for this new campaign as well...maybe the washers are different?

The tang ones are orange! I meant ting. Are you referrring to the Field Service FSAM-407 for the halfshaft washers? Thought that was the ting ones but I don't know. Hard to keep track. I'd be clueless if I didn't follow this forum

Yeah. Last service mentioned ting washers on halfshafts...but that was February so maybe the FSAM is something different. I dunno anymore.

What's funny is that since I got mine in the summer, the AC was always running full blast and never even heard anything out of the suspension until October when I wasn't running it all the time...driving around with no radio or climate control on was enough to question everything.
I mean, doesn't it make you think that all of the ICE cars we've driven our entire lives made all kinds of weird noises that we never heard because of, well, the ICE...

I just got my R1T back after the washer install and it's quiet as a mouse now. No more creaks.

For sure. But creaking isn’t my issue. It’s a loose feeling drivetrain with too much gear lash.

Yeah, I don't have that. I had the clunk or tock or whatever. That got fixed when they torqued the bolt in the front but then I had months of creaking noises. Now those are gone.

Just got mine back from the SC this morning after a 10 day stay.

I had complained about the noise in Jan, but was told it was within spec.
This time I took a drive with the tech, and he said it was not normal.

Just got the truck back and I've only driven 10 miles, but it's like a new vehicle. No abnormal clunking over bumps, no rattle, no damper squirting sound. Nothing. Its so much more pleasant.

They replaced the damper modules, and did the half shaft washers (among other non-suspension-related things).

Will report back if that changes.
Do you mind listening to the linked video of my truck and letting me know if this is the sound that you were hearing? I had mine in service and they told me it was normal. While my truck was in service (with ~400 miles) they gave me a loaner with about the same miles. It made the same exact noise so when I got mine back, I didn't press them. I just don't think this is normal and that Rivian engineers signed off on that. I have had 3 different cars with air suspension and none of them made any noise.

I hear 3 different sounds. It is noticeable at low speeds and over uneven surfaces. I hear squeak/squeal, thud/thump, and chatter (that's the best I can describe it). If you listen to the video with the headphones on, you'll hear it better. I would love to know that someone had this issue and had it resolved. I LOVE the truck, but I find myself not driving it much because the noise bothers me. I only have 1500 miles and have had it for 5 months. I drive my Jeep 95% of the time and its suspension is totally quiet.

Retorque didn’t work for me. Weird

I actually tested this out. Took my wife's Rubicon on a bumpy hill, shut off ice, put in neutral, and coasted down. Then went over same spot with Rivian.

The 30k mile Jeep was alot quieter than the Rivian. Drastically.

In the halfshafts or the drive units? I had some of that lash (more of a sound) while highway driving in conserve. Their solution was replacing the front drive unit

Same. That's the one I still have and have an appt in June to fix. I'm really not excited about taking it in for a 3rd time unless they have a real solution.

Your truck sounds like mine; so you're not alone lol. Curious to ryanpei's response too!

I think most of the clucking sounds we are all hearing is the axel. Shown in the link below.
I have loaner R1S and its the exact same sounds.
