Hmm. I have not seen that with my Rivian. Maybe latest software update broke it?
He's speaking specifically of the auto ride height reverting to on in gen 2 dual motor vehicles, per EPA rules.

Physical buttons are the correct answer for a lot of things, but not everything. There's a sweet spot. I've got some cars with WAY too many buttons including a handful that I've probably never touched. The Rivian could use a few more buttons and a few less- for example, buttons for door releases is terrible. The steering wheel takes care of most of what I need as a driver while I'm driving, but it doesn't help my passenger. For example, a passenger trying to change volume on a bumpy road will yield the wrong result ~90% of the time in my experience.

I like the CTRL bar, but for the Rivian would probably only consider it in conjunction with EVPlay to allow easier access to menu items hidden by the CarPlay overlay.

Gen1 too. Not only does ride height reset, it also kicks you back into AP drive mode.

Butons and knobs will always belong in stupid, dumb cars, i.e., ICE cars.
The interface has nothing to do with what propels the vehicle. I'm not sure why you're crusading/trolling in a thread about a modification you have no intention of buying.

I'm in but would prefer the more seamless style others requested.

My buttons:
Drive mode- toggle between conserve and AP
HVAC- Auto on/off toggle
Solo Drive- turn off rear and passenger AC vents
Long Park On- disable PAAK, turn off AC, pause music, other energy draining settings etc
Long Park Off- enable above

How would this handle the monthly updates? Would it need to be reprogrammed every 3 months when something is tweaked on the UI side?

I get it when people say they are into the no button thing, and the whole clean look is pretty cool. But I'm appalled at how much eyes off the road driving this requires (I'm guessing this is anticipating all the self driving that is going to take place soon?) It's not glance over, touch the button... its glance, touch the screen multiple times in a row, often glancing back or even staring at the screen, to tap very specific spots on the screen.

And Alexa voice commands is pretty cool, but we live/work/play in areas with very spotty connections (in Silicon Valley!) - ideal setting (twisty mountain roads) for voice commands to work, but no. And while it is cool when it works, its still slower than dropping right hand to the console and hitting a button.

It is far easier in our 2011 BMW to choose a music station or move the car in/out of sport mode, than to do those oft-used functions in the 2025 Rivian.

Looks like an unattractive solution in search of a problem to me. I don't see the need for an additional dial to adjust the temp when it's a tap in the closest lowest corner of the display to chance? Likewise a flick of the scroll wheel will adjust the volume as needed 99% of the time.

Although others may like this, I'll pass...

As I look to the future with respect to building out the EV Play ecosystem, I wanted to gauge interest in a small wireless device that would allow you to assign a physical button or knob to common touch screen functions. Think buttons/knob for liftgate, chargeport door, frunk, lock/unlock, drive modes, HVAC controls, etc. Retailing in the $125-ish range and offered as a standalone product or as an add-on to EV Play.

Reply with "I'm in!" if you have interest and feel free to leave comments and/or suggestions. The device is wireless and rechargeable so let me know where you would mount it: Under/side of the screen, under the dash, charge pad, just free-floating, or ? My preference is under the dash or on the charging pad since the other areas would not be fun to develop a mount for.

Also, pre-order holders for EV Play -- keep an eye on your inbox tomorrow for an exciting update!

I would be in if there’s a toggle state indicator such as a light. Thinking of recirculating air on/off that the R1 switches to off every once in a while

Agree 100%, this would have to be done to match the aesthetics of the vehicle meaning color match, no dangling wires etc to be considered. Also with the email sent 6/29/25: is the GPS unit for Gen 2 vehicles supposed to sit on the dash connected by a loose wire? This wasn't mentioned anywhere in the original plan. What is that going to look like?

I'm surprised Enhanced Auto aka S3XY buttons has not attempted to RD something for Rivian. Absolutely love the company and the companion app. Plus they keep updating it with new great features.

I would be interested in adding stand alone buttons. I was thinking if someone could make something similar to Leviton quickport plates. You have a generic plate and offer different knobs, buttons, switches and blank filler plates. You match each button to what ever function you want to control, and select the type that makes sense. Volume would be a knob, kneel mode a switch etc...

Option to wire it into 12 volts for power would be nice.

Not sure about the location. Dash would be great if it looks good. Difficult to do though.

In. The biggest complaint I have about Rivian is their identical-to-Tesla cost-cutting model of getting rid of virtually all tactile UI just to save a few bucks. There are much better areas to cut costs like those cumbersome screen-controlled motorized HVAC vents. The amount of time I spend eyes off the road in my Rivian is scary compared to other vehicles I've driven.
