So I think we can call it. The original reservation backlog is now done (at least for the launch edition). It took a few weeks longer than I would.

It is a real data point. Draw the conclusion you will. There are always asterisks. Proximity to service center. The random rivian allocation roulette wheel. Who knows? But reserved on June 16 invited to order Aug 18, estimated delivery 4-8 weeks. YMMV

I said i would report back when the invite came. I placed a new reservation on June 16 and today, exactly 9 weeks later, I was invited to order a launch edition. So I think we can call it. The original reservation backlog is now done (at least for the launch edition). It took a few weeks longer than I would.

GEZZUS. I still don't have an invite. Day 1 reservation made as soon as they showed the link during the unveiling.

This is such bullshit I'm ready to quit Rivian forever. WHAT DID I GO TO THE LAUNCH PARTY AND PUT AN EARLY RESERVATION IN FOR?

I need to go punch something.

Not surprising given that you're on your 3rd Rivian already and R2 makes it 4th.

There is something to be said for royalty and Rivian did say that R1 owners will go sooner than those without any R1 history. This is not the same as getting an allocation on a limited run vehicle. It is treating repeated customers better.

I have no idea if Rivian is seeing dwindling backlog of R2 vehicles but with the second shift being added in a month or two, I bet most of the LE place holders will be satisfied this year.

This is like the canteen scene in the 1986 comedy, Three Amigos. The OP is Chevy Chase’s character šŸ˜‚.

What in the world would make you think that? They clearly are letting some people who reserved late to go ahead of peple who didn't reserve so soon. There's no way to conclude what you are saying simply because you're one of hundreds of later reserveres now ahead of those who are not late resrevers.

I reserved in 2024 and I'm still waiting. I'm pretty sure invites are based on multiple factors that include your location, saved features, lease timing, and reservation time. It seems like lease timing and location have played the biggest roles in deciding who gets to order.

I know that is the spiel that Rivian has been telling us to allay our concerns about everything being done haphazardly... but I'm not buying the company line anymore.

The actual selection process feels more random. To me it's like if the Rivian folks pull their heads out of their asses and see their shadow, then it's six more weeks without an R2...

Just because you don't know all the factors that Rivian takes into consideration doesn't mean it's random. Yes, they have announced some of the factors, but that doesn't mean they announced all of them. (Rail transport scheduling and costs are a huge factor when shipping things cross-country).

Sorry to say but you are a previous Rivian Owner in a Rivian EV hub center near Houston. You had a good chance of being pulled early from that alone. That being said, I still haven't gotten my order invite either.

I don’t know the selection criteria Rivian uses for invites other that what they say and has been discussed here and elsewhere. But I am a 3/7/24 @1:39 PM ET reservation holder who got aug-sept window in june 30 email, 8/11 invite and invite for coastal cloud order today, so I’m lucky (ordered today). But based on Rivian emails and suspicions about how Rivian chooses invites i would guess additional factors beyond choosing ā€œdefinitely plan to order R2ā€ in rivian app include:

-Demo drive record (i did two, one before 6/30)
-How many times you go to Rivian app to ā€˜explore’
-Putting at least one LE configuration in favorites
-Following links in R2 promotional emails

Maybe makes no difference but i did all of these things.
