My biggest recurring issues with Highway Assist is it getting confused by tar snakes or when it just sort of gives up and shuts off randomly.

I sometimes get very mild phantom braking on highways, but never anything that lasts long or causes a panic. I get far worse phantom braking when using adaptive cruise control on regular streets, especially when there are many parked cars in a row and the street isn’t straight. It starts to think some of the parked cars are moving and sticking out into the lane.

I’ve had the R1T for 1 year and used driver + up and down the I-5 from Portland to LA. And everywhere in between. I’ve never had a moment where I’ve felt like it was make a “bad decision” or doing something unpredictable. I don’t like how much it slows down when a car in front of me uses an off ramp to exit the freeway and then has to accelerate again back up to freeway speed… other than that, no other issues at all… ? .

Yeah, it seems fine in the limited places where it works at all, other than construction. It's absolutely insanely dangerous in any construction area. Autopilot was a little wobbly in such places, but not overtly dangerous.

I just used it on a 1,200 mile trip and there were no significant events where I felt it was trying to kill me. With that being said, it was "unimpressive" and seemed to want to ride farther left that I was comfortable with so I only used it when the roads were not busy.

Previous Driving assistance experience I have is with Comma, Hyundai, Mercedes, BMW, Ford and with my previous Model X...The Tesla was the absolute Best by Miles and the Rivian Is the absolute worst.
Driving in the carpool on the 405 in LA, the car would get wayyy too close to the dividing wall to a point if there's any widening like as you get close to a bridge I will need to disengage or expect my life insurance to prove itself. Many times I will get Lanes not detected even if the lane marks are perfectly clear. Also the fact it will suddenly disengage by itself with no other actions it is DANGEROUS! BMW for example would slow down and turn on the hazard lights if you don't take control when the car ask you to, Rivian will just let you die.
I love the quality of the car but this is a deal breaker for me and once my lease is up I will be going with a different car. (Assuming my R1T won't be a lemon before that since I am waiting for 2 months now for service)

Did about 75 miles today with Driver+, no issues.
I only drive on mapped roads maybe a couple times a month, but I've got a few thousand miles with Driver+ engaged and it's worked great for me.

I've used Tesla, Ford, and Hyundai ADAS systems and an older Cadillac that had adaptive cruise and lane keep, to be honest they've all worked pretty well and I've had very few issues. The Tesla and the Rivian have been the best. Obviously, the Tesla being available on all roads is a huge benefit, but as far as how the system works when they are both available I've found them pretty comparable.

I haven't had the opportunity to use FSD.

I live in a high traffic area full of suicidal drivers so don't get to use it very often. I sometimes forget it's even an option. Biggest issue, the few times I've used it, was I felt it shouldn't stay in the middle of the lane when passing a huge truck. Maybe slide over a bit, give it some room? Not sure does Tesla or others do this? ?

In any case, imagine I'd use it more if we lived out in the country like some of y'all blessed folks do. ?
Yes, Tesla veers to the left side of the lane when passing a truck on the right.

I used Highway Assist for most of a 4000+ mile roadtrip, and I love it. I’ve also used it in rush hour traffic on the Baltimore beltway, and it’s been great.

Certain road surfaces and conditions give it problems, and this can be region-specific. Whatever they do to their roads in Arkansas and Oklahoma seems to be tricky for it.

But as long as you understand that it’s an assistive technology, and that you’re still practically and legally responsible for paying attention to driving conditions and responding accordingly, it’s hugely beneficial in reducing the mental load of driving.

I'm a new gen2 owner coming from a 2019 Volvo XC40 with their driver assistance system (Pilot Assist).

I was literally going to start a thread just to remark about how disappointing Driver+ is. I expected Driver+ to be at least as good as a 6 year old system. But it's so, so much worse. Can't engage on roads that the Volvo did fine on. Hugs the right side of the lane even when there's another car in that lane hugging the left, and disengages with me trying to gently nudge it left to give more room to that car. And randomly and repeatedly refuses to engage with "not available" and no reason.

I'm hoping it improves quickly.

Another area they could work on is anticipation. For instance in stop and go traffic that clears to higher speeds intermittently, rivian has issues. Maybe a car changes lanes and a clearing opens up in front for some hundreds of yards and your speed is still set for 70mph. The rivian will blindly accelerate towards the next group of stopped cars and then slam on the brakes and or bleep a warning when it realizes the danger. It doesn't sense the speed differential between it and other cars next to it or the speed of the one ahead. It's a tough balance between closing the distance but not at an excessive differential. I'm not sure increasing the follow distance even further is the solution.
