92xx here, had for maybe 3 weeks. 850 miles. Today was first time I used Conserve mode, and also changed height settings a couple of times. All of a sudden I now have some slop in the drivetrain when going very slow and on/off the accelerator, and a whine should at speed. Did not make any noises and was tight as a drum until today. Have to run 210 miles tomorrow, hoping for no problems.

Dropped mine off yesterday at the Service Center to get the "Tocking" fix and the alignment fixed so it doesn't pull to the right. They said they lubed the half shaft splines and I should be good to go. Yep, I was good to go about 25 miles on the drive home before the "tocking" noise started right back up. I called the Service Center on the way home and talked to the Service Advisor. He wants to schedule another appointment. I had him note on my account that he and I talked and the issue wasn't fixed. Honestly, I'm just going to wait until they figure out how to fix it for real, not just shove some molybdenum grease in there and cross their fingers. Oh, and like everyone else who has had an alignment... it still pulls to the right, basically no change post alignment.

Yeah there is definitely something wrong with the suspension design. Hopefully the result is just an annoying set of sounds and nothing more. Fingers crossed they have a permanent solution early next year.

Would be great if that was addressed with an email much like the tonneau cover so we can feel confident that they are actively working on it.

111xx started getting the 'tock' now with around 700 miles on the truck.
There's no way that something making these sounds isn't also producing wear on part(s)... but hey, that's what warranties are for.

  • I have the tock
  • I also have some weird noises like a compressor is failing when walking towards my locked truck, but it only lasts a few seconds before it stops. It definitely did not do that when new.
  • Intermittently the front driver side seems lower than the other sides.

I've been unable to schedule service to get these issues addressed.

The first attempt Rivian said there were no available timeslots at my SC, and they'd had to contact the SC to get something scheduled. They said they'd get to me within 24 hours, but they didn't. Then I saw that they deleted the service request entirely so it doesn't even show up in the app.

The second time they called me around 48 hours after I left the request, but I wasn't able to answer the phone as they called me outside the time I said to contact me. They left the generic message where I'm sure I'll get the same "unable to schedule service at this time" response when I call them.

What's really horrible is anytime I go anywhere people are asking me if the tock noise is normal. It really creeped out a valet driver that wasn't familiar with Rivians.

Sadly it didn't do it that much at the service center stopped by for the recall. I was hoping to drive it back and forth hundreds of times to demonstrate future noises to new R1T owners, but my truck foiled my evil plan by not being as loud or obnoxious about it. DOH!!

It seems to depend a lot of ride height and suspension setting. Conserve seems to be the worst.

I did show the SC person the sound of the tock, and he said he knew what it was and it was a quick fix to lubricate it (the make believe fix). But, he didn't know what the failed compressor sound was when I showed him a video of it.

Just got mine back from SC for a creaking noise when stopping/starting. They got rid of that noise and I am now left with this tocking sound. My Tesla 3 and now my wife’s Y has a noise when pressing/releasing the accelerator pedal. My R1T noise is similar in that it is pedal related. At first I thought it was the stopping/starting causing it. i assume it is something electronically engaging/disengaging.
What was the fix for the creaking? Mine is doing the same and Rivian wants me to bring it in to an SC. Seems like a widespread problem and want to know what the fix is before I waste a day from work and be without a vehicle for a day +. Thanks.

They'll grease the splines and the noise will go away... for a few hundred miles before it comes back.

So I should just live with it until a better resolution is found? I tried asking the service advisor what the fix was and quoted this forum's experiences, but of course, he couldn't comment.

I have mine in the SC right now for this issue as well as some others. Tech was speaking to advisor and stated they had a new process to fix the issue but didn’t really clarify what that was. Fingers crossed it’s fixed once and for all.

The mobile tech fixed this issue and the recall at the same time. The only noise that I am left with is the normal “clicking” when pressing/releasing accelerator. Tech said that was the drive units engaging/disengaging. All good so far.

Not good seeing that greasing the splines stops the "toc" but once the grease is forced out of the splines after several hundred miles it comes back. It means too much clearance between the splined half shaft and splined socket in the drive motor. Only one way to fix that.. replace one side of the joint with a correctly fitted splined end.
Other possibility is improperly manufactured CV-Joints and the extra grease on the splines is helping to temporarily remove the lash shock between when the axle is bing driven by the motor or is driven by regen. Only way to fix that is replace the CV-Joint (which includes half-shaft).

In any case, parts will most likely need to be replaced unless they magically find another under-torqued bolt somewhere responsible for the toc.

I can't answer that for you, but I believe any 'fix' they currently employ is temporary at best.

Mine was fixed after two trips to the shop. Once to Portland (no change) and once to Bellingham. Mine is quiet now. I agree that lubing the splines would seem too be a temporary fix. So does this become part of a regular maintenance regime? I think anything short of replacing the affected half shafts amounts to a band-aid.

Did they replace your half shafts or was the repair something else? All 4 front and rear?
