Is it just me... or the news dying on the max pack for the R1S, plus the FAQ stating max pack only for R1T, and then Rivian making all R1S orders 7 seat... that a max pack for the R1S isn't going happen.

I really need that max pack in the R1S for my overlanding needs.

I think it's reasonably safe to assume it's not going to happen in the next two years. They have other issues to deal with. I'm guessing they didn't think the range they were fitting in it was a big enough differentiator.

im worried about getting a max pack at all. I have a reservation on the silverado ev bc now they are advertising 400 miles of range on their largest battery, and that is a much bigger truck. I dont want the silverado, but i may have to. The plus of the silverado is that its wider and has a longer bed.

Out of curiosity, what makes you want the R1S for overlanding over the R1T? I'm also doing an overland build

That’s why I’m glad I picked up the second reservation. I plan on getting an R1T 300 this summer then trade up to the max pack whenever that happens. Hopefully still at pre-March 1st pricing.

Smaller wheelbase is better for the trails. But they also didn't give R1S a full-size spare.

I assume you're specifically talking about the max pack for R1S? They're still showing R1T max pack starting in 2023. As in other threads, I initially wondered if they were just trying to deal with battery cell availability issues since for every 3 max pack trucks they could build 4 large pack trucks. Now I'm wondering if they're going to do an 800V pack for them so charging rates will be higher and more consistent...but that would involve using the in-house motors. Only announcements on that has been late 2022 for the EDV and late 2023 for the dual-motor R1.

Also have a R1T Max on order and wondering if they'll up the specs as far as 800V architecture for it by the time I take delivery. It would be a bit lame having a pack that large and being stuck at 150ish or less kw charge rate.

At this point I wouldn’t count on a max pack for R1S. It seems to have fallen to the wayside.

One question it does create: since the R1S max has never been configurable, and CS always told preorder holders they could switch later, is the upcharge $10k from large to max for pre-March 1 orders, or is it $16k?

We may never know.

How long would you be willing to sit on your reservation for it to come to fruition though?

Large pack is enough for me.

I’ll be content to wait until mid-2023, at which point Volvo and Ford will have vehicles competing for my parking stall.

There is a bunch of threads on this, but I suspect the answer is they could't get the cells to fit in the R1S. It's got a shorter wheelbases so the R1T max pack is too long for it. It seem like they were originally going to put the additional cells for the max pack in the space the 3rd row takes up but when they did the redesign that increased the overall R1S length they ran out of options for additional cell placement.

That doesn't mean it can't come later with additional engineering, but they have a lot of projects in flight right now and I can't imagine it's high priority.

From what I was reading over on Reddit, those who've talked to CS have said CS is implying the max pack will happen, but it's going to be a couple years until it does. So my guess is 2025 at the earliest. I wouldn't wait around for it. Either get the large pack and be happy with it. Then maybe trade it in for the max pack once it's available.

Yep. That's specifically what OP was asking about. Max pack R1T should be coming s00000n.
