That's a great looking tire. Looks like an AT sidewall. Hopefully there's a noticeable range increase. Eager to hear your results. I've got a set of Rivian AT's on the way, but considering swapping the Pirelli's off with the Defender Platinums right out of the gate. I wish they would just sell me the AT wheels, but they would only sell the wheel/tire package.
That’s why you go aftermarket

I had a set of the Defender Platinums installed today. The original Pirelli’s had just over 28k miles on them and still measured about 8/32 of tread left on all tires. But the noise and vibration were terrible, particularly after the 15k mile mark. The Pirelli’s developed a high frequency vibration that could be felt in the steering wheel and gas pedal.
The side view of the new Platinums is very similar to the Pirelli, but the tread pattern is very different (comparison pics attached). The improvement (reduction) in road noise is incredible ! The truck is virtually silent now. The Pirelli’s were not this quiet even when new. Also, the ride quality is just as good, and perhaps slightly better. I don’t have enough miles on the Platinums yet to see if there’s a range impact but will report back next week after a road trip. So far I am very impressed and pleased with the new Michelins.
Costco had these on sale earlier this month, so the total out the door price was $1712. If you use Costco you will need to bring your own lifting pucks.

Defender I've had for years on another truck started with 4-6/32nds more tread depth than others in the same tire size. That's partially what accounted for the 70K rating it started with more tread and was a harder compound but ride was fine having bought the second set and driven 75K (70k on first, 5 on current). I think platinum is 14/32 versus OEM 13/32, but no UTOG on this tire at Costco site.

Those look fantastic and I love the first impressions on noise and ride.

Please keep reporting on them, I assume you won't have much snow reporting, but how about wet driving, range, maybe sand since your in NC? Also curious on the price, did Costco give you hassle about mounting them because of speed ratings or anything?

You guys obviously missed my review. The Costco website shows these tire are "temporarily out of stock" That's because they were just released in November 2023. Not all sizes are available yet, like the popular 275/60/20's.
I just bought a set of 285/60/20's and I'm over the moon happy with them. Costco is the best place to order them from, they have the most stores nationwide, best no questions asked warranty and service.
Here are my pic's, search for my review on these. Yes these are the new Platinums.
Yes they fit without any rubbing. Yes they are fantastic.

Are you seeing efficiency improvement vs. 20" AT?
People said up to 25% improvement for the 275/60/20 which is different from your 285/60/20.

I do not believe that is a popular size for Rivians.

The truly popular and correct OEM size for 20" Rivian wheels is 275/65/20 and that has been available on the Defender LTX Platinum since launch and is in stock everywhere.

Rivian owners who were installing 275/60 on their 20s were likely doing so with the new Defender LTX M/S2 which is NOT currently available in 275/65/20.

Yes my bad. I should have reviewed my post before I posted it. I meant to say 275/65/20

Quick update on the Defender Platinums after about 700 miles of driving. The ride quality and noise level continues to be excellent.
I did a highway trip this week and averaged 2.3 mi/kwh in conserve mode, which is slightly better than the old Pirelli’s. I’m not ready to save that the Platinums are more efficient, but they are at least equal to the Pirelli AT’s.

I have that same high frequency vibration you’re talking about and I have about 20k on them. Before now I was waiting for the Nokian to make an all season in the OEM size but think I’ll give these a try after winter. I loved the defenders I had on my F150 and I got almost 80k out of them! If these are as good I’m sold.

I was able to purchase these Defender LTX Platinum on costco.com this morning. I'm at 33k on the Pirelli's and they're nearly bald and deafening.

Update? What size did you get? Did Costco give you any problems installing?

A couple of stupid questions about buying these at Costco if you don't mind:
  • When I look up my R1S in the Costco system it comes back without any available tires, but when I look it up by 275/65/R20 I have lots of options. Is that just me?
  • Costco does the initial fill with nitrogen...Does it make a difference?
  • Were you able to be there to show them how to drive the truck and use the pucks?

Nitrogen is a gimmick.
