I updated to 42.1 remotely while on a trip. After it finished, I checked in the app which shows the infamous “12v battery needs service”. When I got to the truck and saw the issue in the truck at the airport parking garage, I tried a hard reset per rivian support to no avail. Issue persists.

They said diagnostics report looks good, so it’s okay to drive until a mobile tech can come out next week. That said, I’ll probably not update when available from now on so I don’t risk these issues. Pretty clumsy process as I now have an problem potentially awaiting every time I drive the truck.

I did not see this issue after installing 42.1, but on my first drive after the update it did a reset while driving on the freeway. Does not appear to be a stable update.

That’s my fear. I’ve seen too many posts outside of the original 42.0 thread with serious faults. I think I’m skipping on 42.1

Mine did the same. Still had speedometer, but everything else was missing until restart finished. After everything came back the truck seemed fine. Definitely disconcerting for a minute!

Any news updates on update resolution? Just asking cause my R1S keeps asking if I want to update to 42.1…….so far I am avoiding it.

Decided to let it go for today but can’t imagine them expecting me to be ok with it in this state until 12/28. The phone won’t connect at all, I can’t change the charge level (stuck at what I last set of 80%), it doesn’t show battery percent or range while driving, the battery says it is 32 deg and in an error, the paak doesn’t work at all, pet mode is not usable, the screen is off except while in drive. But, I am honestly not upset at the occasional bump in the road while updating. One of the things I really like about Rivian is the updates with new functionality and I hope that despite issues like this they keep pushing out new features regularly. What I am a little upset with is the lack of urgency from Rivian. I would have really liked to have to gotten some acknowledgment yesterday that the OTA team is at least looking into the issue and the attitude from the service team that this just happens and I am am stuck waiting for possibly months (and doing me a big favor moving it up to the end of next month!) with a barely functioning vehicle makes me sad. Not surprised to hear nothing today but really hoping they will get back to me tomorrow.

Spoke with them again just now. I’m a bit confused as they are pretty much of the opinion that they need to bring the vehicle in for service to do anything which is a little bit conflicting with what they said for the other case of this issue. Really hoping they can get me in soon as the lack of battery status and the red exclamation are having a major impact on me wanting to go anywhere.

My R1T had been parked at the airport since last Saturday and I saw the update available in the app. But I didn’t want to kick off the update remotely and return home to a truck with issues.

Home now and I just went to see about the update and it’s not there anymore. Neither the app or settings in the vehicle are showing an update available.

I wonder if they pulled the 42.1 update?

I'm also wondering if they've pulled 42.1. Have been on a road trip all week and holding off on the update until I returned home. Been annoying to have to keep dismissing the notification all week. Got home this evening and went to kick off the update only to find it is no longer available. Hopefully a new patch release will push in a few days.

I’ve been holding off the recent update as well after I heard about the nightmares on 42.0.

And I’m also not seeing any available updates on my Rivian app. Until Rivian’s OTA team get their act right and after I hear from the masses that it’s 99% safe, I’m not going to apply any future updates.

Looks the same to me. I have been bugged every time I jump in the car to update to 42.1 for the past week. Shows both in the phone and in the center display which I always cancel out. This morning, I stopped seeing that message and the same notification for the update in the phone also disappeared. Pulled most probably.

I updated to 42.1. Now my rear parking sensors are throwing a fault. My R1T says rear sensors not working, cross traffic alert is not available, and Driver+ is not available. However, rear sensors seem to work at least visually on the display when parking, just no sound. Fronts work as normal. And Driver+ on the highway seemed to work, at least for cruise and lane keeping, although I didn’t fully test it. Cross traffic doesn’t work.

I have also had some infotainment issues, but they seem to have gone away. I haven’t tried pet mode yet. Service appointment is this week. I noticed in the service notes is says check 12v system and connections. All was fine immediately prior to the update.

Weirdly, the 12v battery service indicator has now gone away...

I've driven it for the past 6 days with the little yellow 12v battery indicator displaying every time I get in the truck for the entirety of the ride. No matter how much I would charge per day (70%, 75%, 100%), it would still be there the next day. Except today when I got in the truck, the error disappeared (charged to 75% overnight). TBD if it's gone for good, but I'm still keeping my Friday appt for them to check the 12v battery.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Two more issues with the dorked 42.1:

1) Phantom battery drain has worsened considerably - went from 57% SOC to 32% past 5 days parked in sleep mode with all else off, and

2) Charge port door will not open either from haptic button near port door, nor from screen which will only turn on if vehicle shifted into D or R which disables button.
