Navigation data needs to be better.

I get that the Rivian data source may not be Apple Maps and Google Maps level current. But, they need to know major road closures that have been in place for over a month.

The 330 in California has been closed since being impacted by the Line Fire, 40+ days ago.

The Rivian app and the in vehicle systems are quite content to try to route me right through there. I don’t know who they currently get their map data from (still Map Box?) but if this is any example it needs to be better!

I reported it in the vehicle, though it doesn’t ask for any details so not sure how they will know what part of the route I am referring to.

Agreed the Navigation has allot to be desired. Wrong location data. Indicating destination is to the left when it is on the right. Charging station locations completely wrong indicating one end of a shopping center when it is on the complete opposite side of a very large shopping center. Then not allowing us to choose a route for our destination simply routing the route.

It's absolutely trash, and I have to double-check things with Apple Maps before trips. Yet another reason why I added CarPlay to the Rivian. Alexa and the built in nav are complete garbage.

I have needed to use the google maps on my cell phone to be sure of things then drive using the Rivian dash with what I learned on my cell. A back up data is needed. The other charging apps all have different settings and defaults and different info. So I use a couple different sources and live wiser.

In September, the Rivian tried directing me over the same closed bridge that my Tesla had tried directing me over in June. That bridge was closed in April. Luckily, I was able to find a route around it on dirt roads in the Tesla and knew about it in the Rivian. Reported it, but unsure if it helped at all.

edit: the suggested detour for this bridge closure was a 20 mile backtrack, so an extra 30+ miles of driving. I didn’t have that much extra range in the Tesla when I encountered the bridge closure.

I too use my phone as primary for navigation. If the Rivian agrees with Apple Maps or Waze for a given route, then I know I can use the Rivian while driving.
