The new model Y L will be launching this weekend. Anticipated pricing will be close to the launch edition of the R2. We now have these main key contenders for around $60K:

- BMW iX3 (range leader)
- Volvo EX60 (luxury focused)
- R2 Launch (adventure, off-road)
- Tesla Model Y Performance (on road dynamics, FSD)
- Tesla Model Y L (6 seater, increased luxury & space)

Does the new Model Y L offer differentiation that aligns with your goals?

I have been cross shopping the Rivian R2 Launch (order window Nov-Dec) and the Model Y Performance in the latest Mystic Blue (with all options included) for the same pricing. Although I don't need the space, the Model Y L should offer (based on Australia launch), increased space, rear heated and cooled captains chairs, increased range, even better sound system, increased range, vehicle to load, for about the same price as the performance variation. Compelling to me and I look forward to seeing what's included in the launch edition, and how it is priced.

Unless it has CarPlay/AA no one here cares…actually I think no one here cares either way…
Then you are in the wrong forum...Rivian doesn't have CarPlay. I would Google, "forum for cars without a good OS"

At least Tesla can produce a car with no infotainment lag. Almost every update on Rivian supposedly addresses "Improved general stability and performance" but never gets there no matter what version of unreal engine they move to.

I appreciate your post as I am shopping while I’m waiting for my R2 invitation
It’s compelling because I just read a post of how poor the quality of his R2 was when he picked it up https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1GL5GZLmjp/?mibextid=wwXIfr
This post is surely disappointing so I’m gonna shop and I think the Tesla YL might be a good competitor

For every report of "oh no, something is terribly wrong", there's more people picking up their vehicles that are just fine and the people involved just..... go about their lives. Or of others reporting that the quality of the product is great!

In other words, you can't draw many conclusions from a sample size of one negative report.

I have a Model Y 7-seater and an R1T.

The Model Y wouldn't be in my top few cars for consideration if I were in the market again today. I'd probably be comparing the R2, Ioniq 5, EV6, and the new Leaf. Probably in that order.

The Model Y isn't a bad car. I just don't see much compelling about it compared to the alternatives.

I am interested in the Y and the YL, and have a R2 Reservation. Just undecided at the moment.

Is it the Tesla build quality, lack of luxury or what? What year is your Y?

Especially once you see the first negative report on the YL. It won't be long...
