You're probably right, but the release notes kind of sound like this is separate from the charge schedule.

Maybe they are just referring to what happens after the scheduled time is reached, if you don't unplug.
I'm hoping what this allows us to do is set it so it will only just precondition the battery once before you are scheduled to leave, as opposed to constantly keeping the battery warmed up which is what the car is doing now which I think contributes to the vampire drain. When I unplugged into sure power I can see the car wake multiple times overnight and take charge to keep the battery above a certain temp

Anyone notice changes to maneuverability at lower speeds? Is that just referring to the throttle mapping or was it actual changes to the steering?
I have and, it feels much better. I have a full lock turn coming out of my garage every morning and could immediately tell the difference. I can also feel it when leaving from a stop and turning.

The best way I can describe it is it no longer feels like a locked front axle giving a push/slip feeling as the tires try to rotate at the same speed through a turn. It now feels more like a smooth open diff. I am going to assume this should help ever so slightly with front tire wear as well.

I reset my trip odometer yesterday at 4PM (about an hour after installing the 2023.50.01 update), I'll check it today at 4PM and report back. Never had PAAK setup, prox. off (not just "off at home") completely as well, fob is kept in a verified Faraday box.
This right here is the problem. I shouldn't have to turn off Bluetooth on my phone and put a fob in a faraday cage to prevent vampire drain.

There are toggle switches where you can turn the schedule on and off if you would like very easily, especially if you’re going to be away from your vehicle and don’t want it to precondition
Sure...but the documentation from Rivian seems to indicate the battery may keep itself warm regardless of the schedule's status if you leave it plugged in.

----------------

This is my gripe over the last round of PaaK / proximity key updates. My truck never stays asleep anymore and before that round of updates it did. So now my vampire drain is ridiculous. Here's a plot from ElectraFi since I've been at the office. The span of over an hour of idle time was from a meeting that was maybe 30 ft from the truck and it just stayed awake the whole time. Then as I move around the office it just constantly bounces.

Rivian R1T R1S OTA 2023.50.01 Software is Out! (w/ departure & preconditioning scheduling)! Screenshot from 2024-01-11 11-39-15

Someone mentioned the new auto wiper sensitivity. My truck even in the lowest sensitivity mode is STILL doing the "courtesy wipe" thing, so I'm not going to use it. If anything, it's now made using the wipers worse for me because it's harder to get to the Off position.

I don't understand this, nor the explanation below. If the motors are not running, where is the heat coming from? Is it from the battery CHARGING? If so, it takes a looong time for the battery temp to come up from charging. At least in the cool/ cold temps since I got my Standard Dual in November. If that's the case, the app should have a setting for CHARGING the battery to a certain level before departure time, not just warming it up? That seems like a complete waste of energy.
You do not understand how it works? The windings in the motor are used much like heating elements. Current is run through them to create heat, without activating the actual torque producing motor. Tesla pioneered this clever way to get around adding heating elements (more cost wiring and weight), and Rivian is the first I am aware of to copy the design.

Ah, OK. I assumed the windings would take AWAY heat and transfer it to the battery. That makes MUCH more sense!

B for brake and A for accelerate? OKAY! I'll go field test this

Didn't work ☹
What ever happened to that guy? Was there resolution to his “I was barely driving and it flipped” story? That and the guy who could park in his Florida driveway because of the HOA. I need resolution!

I am currently in the middle of my first preconditioning cycle and noticed some live feedback from the app. I have the schedule set to be ready for departure at 5:00pm, with seat/steering wheel heater on and cabin @ 75°. Ambient temp is 43° and, at 4:00pm the climate control and surface heaters kicked on.

I understand getting the battery heating started this early but, 1 hour prior seems excessive to warm the cabin and surfaces. I was thinking more in the neighborhood of 10-15 minutes prior.

I am curious how early others are seeing their climate kick on via the new schedule?

wouldn’t 1.2kW be <1% - isn’t that normal?

i have no insight here; i’m on the 4-5% train here and have yet to receive the new update to test if it corrects my issues ??

"Normal" is relative, yes 1.2kWh/day loss is average for a Rivian at this point in it's SW dev cycle, but many other current EV's have almost 0kWh/day loss so we're hoping for a breakthrough from Rivian one of these updates.

i don’t disagree with you there - you just got me a little nervous as someone who is seeing the greater 4-5% loss that my issue may possibly not get resolved here; you’re the first to see no difference (that i’ve read thus far)

here’s me hoping with you that we eliminate vampire drain in its entirety ASAP

I love the pedal remap of this new update. Finally doesn’t feel like I’m pushing on a rubber chicken under my foot. It is better but I would say has a little room for improvement. Would like it to feel a little closer to a Tesla to be honest. More precise pedal feel, before this update the pedal was just straight mush… and awkward to backup or pull vehicle into a parking spot with confidence. As it had a big ass dead zone. Most of it’s gone now.

and love the preconditioning scheduling. Thanks Rivian.
I do hope they will fix the turn signal sound, it’s gritty still… the silence between the sound is not silent? It’s like sandpaper noise. And makes me cringe. The sound engineer must hear this no? It’s not a huge deal but just a bit of an oversight that has me baffled. I assume most can’t hear it since most people are borderline deaf once they hit their 20’s.

I would like to see Rivian add a way to view cameras from within the app, even if it costs money. I would pay 10usd a month for more bandwidth to do this along with Netflix? YouTube etc.

LOL I have noticed the sound on the turn signals too. It is annoying. Like they used a low quality recording.

Anyone figure out what the improved maneuverability at low speeds did?
