Got this at 2:30 am one night on my 2 week old R1S.
Immediate serving required as the parking brake has failed!
Must been an automatic parking brake. I was parked in a driveway with a slight slant, so perhaps it applied it for me, which I didn't think was necessary.
A google search said something about going to the service menu and manually releasing the parking brake to enable rolling or towing.
Did that and car would not go into gear. I'm thinking, I got this car so I wouldn't have to worry about my 2004 chevy truck not starting at a bad location or time of night.

Unable to believe this was really happening and just a bad dream, I got out of the car, locked it with the key card, and then unlocked it and got back in to see what would happen.
Fortunately, the error light went away, and the car behaved normally.
Anyone else experience of hear of this happening?
I'm new to the vehicle, so would like to hear other ways to reboot the system. I'm familiar with doing it on Tesla cars, but not on my R1S. So much is different - I haven't learned all of the procedures yet.
Thanks, in advance,
Tom

Weird. I don’t recall seeing anything like that mentioned on this forum. I suggest putting in a service ticket even if you don’t experience the problem again, if for no other reason than to ensure Rivian knows about it. Personally, I would want them to look at the physical parking break, not just chalk it up to software.

Sorry this happened to you. Rivian is still working out some kinks, to say the least. Hope you can enjoy your R1S regardless. From my own experience, I understand why they are ranked at the bottom on the reliability front and yet at the top on customer satisfaction—but I want them at the top on both!

I've had a few strange issues when the vehicle first wakes up. Holding the left steering wheel button + hazards does a full reboot and has cleared them each time. Luckily the issues seem to be getting squashed one by one each update, so less frequent in the past months.

Yes, this happened to me 1 month into ownership. It turned out it was a loose connection. See post here.

I do have a service appointment scheduled. One month out was the soonest they could get someone to look at it. I do think they need to up their quality game, even though the car hasn't done that since. I'm parking on level surfaces just in case the slant was the issue.

Both times it happened to me they got me into the service center immediately because they said I shouldn’t drive it. In the service center for a couple days each time. This was the Portland service center.
