Spoke with my guide who is great so far! Anyways the truck is done and sitting at Normal waiting rail over to ATL SC. He says 4-6wks, but thinks it will be quicker and he should know movement by next week.

The interesting thing he said since I have all my steps done except Payment/Insurance is that I should start the wire transfer now..... I do not feel like I should have to wire anything until I have a schedule date for pickup. I have a loan for half the amount, and pre-approved with locked in rate for 30 days with BofA. The rest I am paying out of pocket for (Selling Mach-E) and will do a wire transfer as well via BofA.

My question is did anyone else wire money before they received a pickup date? I don't want to especially for the loan amount as I would have to start paying interest on that loan with no truck.

Insurance will be easy and can get added same day, so I have that part covered.

Getting excited and nervous all at the same time!

Personally I would not do that or switch your insurance until it reaches the service center. You never know what can happen. Maybe shipping takes longer than expected. Maybe it gets damaged unloading. Maybe the service team discovers something wrong with yours that requires some work, parts. Hopefully none of that happens but there is no risk completing those last steps after it’s cleared for delivery.

I don't see any reason to wire until it's cleared PDI and you are a couple of days from actual pickup/delivery. I wouldn't do it the day before/of in the unlikely event that there were issues with the wire, you'd have an extra day to retry.

As for insurance, they wanted proof of insurance uploaded prior to delivery. My agent had no problem generating the insurance card with it future dated to be an effective date of the delivery date. That way you can easily clear the insurance hurdle in advance, without paying. However, even that requires a firm date (I would verify with your agent that it won't be an issue).

When I speak with my guide next week for an update on movement of the Truck I will let him know I am not going to wire anything until I have a delivery date picked out. If they need proof that I am approved I can upload that, but my guide never mentioned it.

Insurance is all set and I can add whenever I need to pretty easily.

Thanks everyone :)

My guide advised not to pay until the truck was at the SC, which I did. I would let it get as far through the process as possible. It didn't slow down my delivery at all.

I would wait until it's at the SC. The website even says as much, something to the effect of "you don't have to do this now" popup if you click on the transfer button. One thing that slowed me down was I used the automatic system in the website (forget the name of the service). It didn't support linking to Synchrony so I had to transfer the money to Bank of America, then it could link. Just something to be aware of (not all banks are supported) if you choose to use that tool. Good luck!

I'm in the exact same boat, paying the in the exact same fashion. Guide told me not to worry about payment until it gets to the service center and is done with PDI. 4-6 weeks by train to CA from Normal. My neighbor (works at Rivian) did tell me a while back that once I get a VIN, he can track it in real time wherever it is at. Your guide should be able to do the same thing, but even his assigned guide was giving him the basic 4-6 weeks, when in actuality it only took 3 weeks. Also, I did get a loan approval letter from my credit union and uploaded to the financial portion of the documents.

Not sure if that triggered them releasing my wall charger, but I did get it two days later.

My guide advised me to hold off on payment and insurance until I had a confirmed delivery date. I ended up doing it the day before delivery.

Same here, my guide advised me not to make any payment or apply for a loan until R1S reaches SC.

In fact, my car has been sitting in Normal for more than 10+ days waiting to be shipped to SJC. Two weeks ago, when I got my 8 steps, my guide told me to expect an end of April/early May delivery window. Now he is saying mid May to end of May delivery window.

In my opinion, I won’t pay Rivian until a clear delivery date is established.

I waited until the I got my ready to schedule delivery email until I finished payment and insurance. I didnt want to pay anything until I knew I was getting the vehicle. For insurance I just email my rep and they can get me a binder within the day. For Loan I just had everything ready to go. All Rivian needs is a picture of the check and the tracking info from the bank. You may have to do the loan part early since your rate is only good for 30 days. I would wait until the last day and have them finalize the loan then.

Looks like they're shipping out chargers to everyone in advance of delivery (same with me) which is nice. Since they have our deposits they're covered anyway in case anyone takes it and runs!

I did the loan a few days before delivery, to allow for the cashier's check from bank to reach Rivian in California. SC would not take it. The cash, I transferred a 2-3 days before delivery.

They asked me to pay long before I had a proper date, I said I won't. I didn't want to pay interest on a vehicle may not get for 4 - 8 weeks. I also wanted to see the vehicle before I pay, but I did not pursue this.

My guide only told me to wire it three days ahead of the pickup date. I guess the issue was that if it wasn't cleared they would have to reschedule

What is the rationale for the process of requiring payment before the buyer is able to see the vehicle being purchased?

Why not allow an inspection and test drive prior to purchase? Combined with the fact that customers are not allowed to see the service center, and the long wait times to get things fixed, it seems that a customer inspection prior to purchase is warranted.
