Does the charge port door come PPF'd from the factory? I can't remember and couldn't find anything with a quick search. If so, that one is not my installer's fault as they weren't going to re-do any film.
Only factory stuff is gear tunnel doors and behind the cut out in front of the front door.

I thought that line was PPF. It's probably just a bad paint job ☹

To be clear, the package I purchased included "All of the edges will be wrapped" and when I first took it in they explained that all edges would be wrapped, within reason. Wish I had inspected it closer when I first got it back but the dirty edges have really highlighted what a poor job they did. Makes me think it was probably their first R1T given the poor coverage on the charging port door.
Yeah, that is really unacceptable. Any PPF job with “wrapped edges” obviously doesn’t mean every edge, but they just did a poor job all around. They shouldn’t want that out there. I’m sorry man.

I wouldn’t accept that. Edge wrapped or not, you shouldn’t have any lifted edges.

Oh, that’s an easy conversation .. not supposed to be lifting in that many locations. The shop that did mine advised I’d need to bring it back in 2-4weeks for a health check for any deficiencies (meaning some issues expected) but not what you’ve got going on.

** FYI ** anyone getting a clear PPF should ensure the shop uses MATTE on the silver trim pieces (ex. Under body shield and rear bumper) otherwise standard clear will make all those pieces appear chrome/shiny.

No bueno, even for non wrapped edges.

Even as a rookie hamfisted install working with PPF from Twraps, my job is significantly better. That is just lack of attention.

That's just a piss poor job. With the current obsession to PPF every car so many shops are taking on the work and most of them aren't good. I would take it back.

This is the first vehicle I've had PPF'd and have noticed a few issues now that I've been driving the car for a month or so and have done a couple hand washes. Wondering if these are par for the course or if I should reach out to my installer to have them correct these. I'm a little surprised because I had the install done at a very reputable shop here in Colorado with stellar reviews. All edges were supposed to be wrapped, at least to the best of their ability. I'm hoping they'll go above and beyond to make things right, but figured I'd get a sanity check here before I make a mountain out of a molehill. See photos and descriptions below. Am I crazy or are these unacceptable?

Bottom corner of driver's side fender (behind aero slot) showing dirt and peeling.

IMG-3308.webp

This is the ppf on the charger door (right side of photo). Dumbfounded that the charger door wasn't fully wrapped give that it pops out.

IMG-3309.webp

This is an edge above the passenger's side wheel well. Seems like it would be tricky to wrap but it is showing dirt and peeling.

IMG-3310.webp

Front corner of passenger's side fender showing dirt and peeling. Was never fully wrapped and it seems like an easy one to do.

IMG-3311.webp

Passenger's side fender behind the aero slot, peeling and showing dirt.

Mirrors were only partially covered, inside half was left bare. Is this normal based on others' experiences?
Are you referring to the inner part of the mirror that is towards the door/window area? I did a DIY PPF install on my Tesla Y and my kit (which I got from Tesbros) didn't wrap that area either because it isn't an area that would be subject to debris or hit by other items. However, even though I wrapped a different vehicle, the painted area of the mirrors is similar in shape and I was able to stretch my film further over the curve to that inside half than what your picture seems to indicate. My kit only wrapped the hood and front bumper edges. My fenders didn't have wrapped edges, and after a rough and snowy winter with lots of sand on the roads, I haven't experienced any dirt trapped at the edges. IF you do it correctly, it shouldn't be an issue. (If I was able to do it, as a first timer installing PPF, they should have done better). They should fix these issues. I haven't found a place that sells good quality DIY kits for the Rivian yet. I am hoping I will see delivery of my R1S soon, so I'm hoping to find a place. Drive Protected Shop sells only part of the front end, but not the hood (which makes no sense to me). Good luck.

I wouldn't classify it as a bad install. Many good PPF installers will keep the car for at least 24 hours following the install to correct any issues that crop up. Even the best installers cannot do a perfect job on PPF. Lifting edges can happen and they can usually trim it back or redo the panel. Trust me there are some really really bad installs I have seen.

I have never had a PPF install where I didn't need to go back at least once or twice to have things tightened up.

You paid good money to have it installed. Politely being the issues to to installers attention and give them the opportunity to make it right.

That's reasonable and exactly my plan, but still frustrated by the lack of wrapped edges (when that is what I paid for) and the fact that the film doesn't even come close to some of the edges.

Yes, I would discuss that with them. I can understand you being upset if you paid for something and it wasn't delivered.

I do know there are custom jobs (more expensive) and then patterns they cut using a plotter. Some patterns don't wrap edges. For example, the spoiler on the rear of the roof is 8 different pieces of PPF. Also, the patterns around the side mirrors are visible as well.

I didn't want a lot of disassembly of the car and wanted more protection over looks.

I have used three different very experienced pros over the years and the results are very similar but unless you leave the car with them for several weeks you will likely need to go back for adjustments. They can get most of the issues by keeping the car an extra 24-48 hours after the install.

Did you get the Xpel warranty card or warranty from the shop? If it is Xpel you can take it to another Xpel shop for warranty work.

Also the inner part of my mirrors is wrapped, it's just two pieces, not one continuous piece. Maybe they only installed the one. Also all the black on the mirror base is wrapped.
