The metal dashboard grill on my new 2024 R1S started vibrating as soon as I drove it off the Rivian property in April. (I should have taken it back, obviously.). The noise was extremely irritating and would happen on any bump or dip on a road. Manually pushing it down would not work, so my temporary fix was to place a heavy tape measure on it, right next to the windshield. The noise stopped, but it did look a bit goofy.

Rivian Service said it was likely a bad clip and the first available appointment was in two months (yesterday). The visiting technician said that it's a common complaint and he replaced the entire metal grill that now has many built-in plastic clips. He also added some foam strips as a secondary precaution. The replacement took about 25 minutes and the issue has been resolved. Very professional home service, for sure.

Did you happen to snap any photos of the old vs new grill underside?

No, sorry...I didn't think about taking pictures as the tech was removing & installing. I didn't see the old one that he took out, but I believe that it had metal attaching clips. The new grill that I did see has 4 to 5 plastic clips that are molded to the underside and can't come loose and probably are designed to not break as easily.

I am going in on Monday to the SC for the PTC and I added this same rattle to my service order. They said they would address it then. If I get anything additional i will share it here.

Mine does that too. It's extremely annoying. I had taken it to the Service Center to get it fixed and they said they "fixed it".. but it still rattles.. I can see the dashboard literally move up and down over bumps.. Now I have another appointment to get this same issue fixed.. wtf man

it's so frustrating! I honestly don't think they fixed anything on my list when I turned my car in.. and they had it for 2 weeks. All the stuff that I asked to fixed, are still here..

I have smashed about 4 full socks in various areas to attempt to stop this as well as weather stripping and velcro. Mine is mostly fixed....but a more professional solution would be nice.

I feel the same way too. This is the El Segundo service center. And every time I bring it in, they give me a rental for a week or two for something that could be taken care of in maybe 2-3 hours. What a waste of money for Rivian.

Mine is at West Sacramento. Exactly, they can do all the repairs within a day.. I get it that they're booked up and have other cars to fix.. so why not let me keep my truck and call me when you can actually work on it? Instead of giving me a rental for 2 weeks before you even get to work on my truck.

We're talking about the front center piece? Mine only does it on extremely bumpy roads. Went "off-roading" and the constant vibrating made it move.

I got mine on 23 May, 24 and it started vibrating as soon as the next day. ( and yes sound is continuous and very irritating)
The mobile customer service will be coming on 17Th June.
Not only that my bluetooth keys are not working, so I have to use card key and finding that sweet spot to activate is very hard for me.

Very common issue. We had a mobile service come out to fix it (along with some other minor things....broken pillar clip on the driver's side, rubber falling off on the trim). We ordered the full-size spare and when they delivered it, the issues were also fixed.

Kevin the technician is amazing!

As reported earlier in this thread, my R1S front grill vibration was fixed via mobile service with a new grill (new plastic latches). But then on Day 2 and 3 and 4....it vibrates intermittently. Now it seems that the vibration is front center (closest to the seating). Initially, the vibration seemed to come from the area closest to the window (center).

I'm guessing that the tech did not put the 1/2" x 1" foam adhesive tape underneath this front curved area, but only along the window side. I didn't pay much attention when he showed me the tape addition as he said he was adding the tape as an extra precaution, above and beyond the normal repair procedure. I didn't think there was any way for a vibration to happen again....but vibration is still annoying, even if it's random.

If you get your grill vibration repaired by Rivian, I suggest that you relay my story and request the adhesive-backed foam tape under the grill along the front and back sides for the length of the grill and double the thickness where possible.

I'm considering calling service again and waiting another 2 months just because such an expensive vehicle should not have this fault nor need repeated fixes for a bad design.

I'm also considering taking it apart myself by using a 'soft/wrapped' screwdriver or something like a narrow and strong tongue depressor (the tech had a curved narrow 'stick' that wouldn't scratch the metal).

Step one: Pry off the driver-side post cover to the left of the windshield (lots of electronics and wires underneath!).

Step two: Pry off the passenger side post cover (not so much wiring).

Step three: Pry up the grill starting on the driver-side. There are 2-3 small plugs on that left side that need to be uncoupled. Continue to pry up for the full length.

The repair is is not a very difficult process. Good luck! (I'll post pictures next time.)
