Hello everyone,

I'm reaching out because I've encountered a couple of issues with my R1S recently, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.

  1. Issue with Shifting from Park to Reverse: When starting the vehicle from the garage, I've noticed that when I try to shift from Park to Reverse, the vehicle immediately shifts back to Park. This has occurred multiple times, both with and without the seat belt on. To resolve this, I've had to let the vehicle enter sleep mode for about 30 minutes before trying again, after which it works as expected.
  2. Automatic Shift from Hold to Park: While at a signal on the road, I've observed that the vehicle sometimes transitions from Hold mode to Park within a few seconds. In such instances, I've had to manually switch it back to Drive.
Has anyone else encountered these software issues with the R1S? If so, I would greatly appreciate any insights or advice on how to address them.

Sounds to me like your button on the stalk is on the fritz and trying to put it in park at random times.

Most likely reason is that either you don't weigh a lot or you're lifting up out of the seat. The Rivian thinks you're no longer in the seat and throws it into park as a safety measure. Most people run into this problem when backing up and lifting up/turning around to see out the back. I guess a faulty seat sensor could also be a cause, but I haven't seen any reports of that happening for the driver's seat.

Thanks @VSG for the quick response. Now that you mentioned it, I also use a cushion for my sciatica pain. May be that is throwing it off. I have an appointment with service center on Monday, let me also take it in and get it checked out.

There are a couple things that will make it shift into park. Opening the door or leaving your seat as VSG stated.

It sounds like your seat is having trouble detecting that your there. I would try it for a day or two without the cushion to see if it still happens. There have also been reports of folks who weigh less than 120lbs having this issue. In those cases moving position in the seat usually helps.

@240vPlug Thanks, let me give it a try further without my seat cushion and see if it makes a difference
