Hope you find something you like!

im kind of in the same boat, im considering switching over to Sierra EV truck, really want/need the full size. If rivian had a full size truck I’d grab it.
I’ve held off going to the Sierra because the current launch color isn’t my style. Also I’m going to hate going back to legacy dealerships and legacy timeline for software updates.

i might hold out of the scout truck since it’ll likely be full size

Looks like you bought the wrong version R1T.

Dual Performance Max with Pirelli 21's and you would have easily covered that distance.

Unless you're driving 80+.
Dual performance max with 21's is still a mid size truck. He clearly states he feels like he needs a full size truck. And it isn't unusual to drive 80mph in some areas/states.

Not to mention the version you recommend (dual motor/max pack) wasn't available early on.

He sounds like a perfect candidate for a Silverado RST EV or GMC.

How about we let the OP do his own shopping.
You'll find a lot of owners here are EV first due to climate change concerns, so I'm not going to suggest he saddle us with another ICE. Anyhow, I'm pretty sure he's not going to check with me first before buying either way.

Mellowyellow,

On your 250 mile round trip what is your beginning and ending SOC? Currently own a Tesla Model Y, but considering buy a R1T. I do a round trip of 225-250 miles 3-5 times per week. I would like to do this round trip without charging.

Thank you for your response.
Wow, with that sort of mileage, I'd seriously consider a lucid air. It has more than double the efficiency and double the range you need.

@KubotaTed, Im in same situation. Currently driving a EV Silverado Hertz rental on vacation. It’s just OK. R1T is too good to give up.

The Scout might be my fallback if Rivian doesn't fix the half-shaft clunking by the time my lease is up.

Is that a WT trim?

The problem with that idea is that there just isn't an EV truck that can perform all the functions of an ICE truck yet. Getting closer but not there yet. I ended up back in an ICE truck for many of the same reasons as @KubotaTed but have hope that the Ram Charger turns out as advertised.

I start at >95% and in ideal weather conditions return home at 20%. Depending on weather and traffic I've squeaked home at single digits. As I said, when it gets really cold, I can't make the trip without charging once.
I will be curious if gen 2 gets better cold weather efficiency since it has heat pump. The winter range limitation on gen 1 is pretty severe. Or has been in both of my Ts....whether I precondition or not. Minimum 10 percent and if you only charge to 80 you arent going very far.

That has been my experience as well. Worst I've seen in the winter with my 1st gen R1T is 200 miles real world. And a lot of that wasn't even freeway speeds. Even if the gen 2 gets better winter range, I am not sure it will be enough of a difference (at least for me). I forgot how roomy and comfortable full size SUvs and trucks were until I had them as loaners when my R1T spent weeks in service centers.

I guess I missed him mentioning towing. I thought he just needs the space inside and range.

I'm 6' 5" so I know it's not driver's side space. The nimble driving, garage fitting truck is just hard to beat. I find ICE vehicles too clunky and slow.

Exact same thought here. I’m planning on jumping (potentially) into the RamCharger idea after they launch. I don’t have the same ‘trust’ in the legacy automakers (Ram, Ford, GM) that they will have the ingenuity and get out of their own way (think bureaucracy) to pull off the RamCharger. I’m not willing to take the same day 1 risk with Ram as I was with Rivian. Those legacy automakers need to show me the tech is there.

The 700 mile range plus the ability to just fill up the gas tank addresses my range concerns as well as cold winters in the midwest. Right now a long road trip to South Dakota to see aging parents just isn’t possible in my Rivian and I took one of my other cars. I’m in a fortunate position that I have other ICE vehicles to drive as a fall back.

On a completely different topic - someone posted about the Hummer being an option and that’s honestly the last option on the market that I’d consider. Give the kwh battery size vs my 240 charging at home, it would take way too long on a home charger to bring to a suitable SOC. (The battery is massive)

P.S. - I will say having wireless CarPlay back doesn’t suck though. :)

DCFC,

Test drove two Lucids. Liked the Air Touring better than the Pure. After I test drove the Air Touring I did a test drive in a 22 R1T. I really liked sitting up high. The test drive in the R1T went very well. I had a Tahoe and a Yukon in the past and I liked sitting up high and the driver's seat was very comfortable. Still undecided what my future purchase will be. Doing my due diligence. The R1T is intriguing vehicle.
